How to unenroll from epay for virginia state unemployment commission
It says I am "automatically enrolled" . I don't want to file via "epay". I currently file via e-file directly on VEC website. It says I can change it to check vs epay but there is not a button to select check
Hello there, @Jennifer Seay.
Thanks for coming to the Community today. Since you're currently filing via e-file directly on VEC website, I'd suggest you change your method of payment through their website or by at www.vec.virginia.gov or by calling the VRS at 1-800-897-5630.
For future reference, you'll want to read this article: E-file state forms & e-pay state taxes separately. It also contains steps on changing the filing method of your state tax forms to Efile in QBDT.
Feel free to post again if you have additional concerns. I'm always delighted to be your guide. Take care!
The problem is with Quickbooks. When I go to Payroll to Pay Liabilities, QB will NOT allow me to manually cut the check. I cannot find a work around solution. When I go to Employees > Payroll Center > File Forms Tab, then go to bottom to >Change Filing Method. I should see "Unemployment Tax' as an option, but I do not even have this option at this part of the menu navigation.
I can help you manage your e-services, EvelynS.
To get the most up-to-date feature release, you can download the latest release of QuickBooks Desktop and the payroll tax table. Then, you can switch your payment method. Here's how:
For more details, you can click this link: E-file state forms & e-pay state taxes separately.
Let me know how this works so I can help you through it. Take care!
There is NO option, whatso ever on that screen to change the epay to pay by check. I also file & pay, manually on the VEC website and I do not want to efile and definitely do not want QB to epay
This does not work! There is NO option to change the e-pay to check (or anything else for that matter)
Let me help you with this, @TSMechanical.
Let's toggle the filing method so you can change the filing method of your form from E-pay to check. Here's how:

Kindly update me on how this goes. I'll be right here if you need anything else with the payroll and tax settings in QuickBooks Desktop. Have a good one!
DO YOU PEOPLE NOT READ THE THREAD BEFORE YOU PROVIDE THE SAME CANNED RESPONSE?
WE ALL KNOW HOW TO CHANGE PAYMENT METHODS, THE PROBLEM IS THAT ON VEC TAX WE ARE NOT GIVEN AN OPTION.
EVERYTIME I SEE THESE ANSWERS POP UP I'M HOPEFUL THAT SOMEONE AT INTUIT HAS LOOKED INTO THE PROBLEM AND REALLY RESOLVED IT. INSTEAD I'M DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SAME ANSWER THAT ASSUMES WE ARE ALL STUPID.
PLEASE FIX THE PROBLEM, ANOTHER QUATERLY PAYMENT IS COMING AND WE NEED TO FIX THIS!!!!
I appreciate you adding clarifications and for pointing this out, PWEinc.

Feel free to go back to this thread if you need anything else while working with payroll setup. Have a good one.
There are hundreds of us dealing with this issue. I already tried to contact support regarding this matter and they did not help. They gave me the same canned answer about VEC requiring E-pay. We all know that!
In any case they then want access to my data which is never going to happen. It is a software, not a DATA ISSUE and it needs to be fixed!
Why ask hundreds of people to go deal with this problem with customer service instead of adding "pay by check" option to this tax as it is available for all others taxes.
Do you people not read all the comments on this thread?
I'm having same issue , there isn't any option, epay shows as mandatory , I don't want QuickBooks any payment
Totally agree with you, we need the fricking answer
Hi ECS,
Thank you for joining the thread.
Currently, Epay is the only option for VA Unemployment, so users will stay compliant with the requirement of the state. However, we’ve also seen feedback about this, especially those who prefer to pay through the website. We're gathering them so our engineers will be able to weigh the options for our clients and make sure they still comply. Right now, there aren't any updates yet.
If you have other concerns, just comment below.
THE SOLUTION PROVIDED DOESNT WORK .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to ensure this is taken care of, ECS.
I see that my colleague has already answered a similar question you've posted. You can refer to this link if you haven't checked it yet: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/employees-and-payroll/new-update-makes-e-pay-manda...
Don't hesitate to comment below if you have other questions printing the VA form. We're always here to help. Have a great day!
I've figured it out and am sharing in case any of you haven't found the answer yet.
At the top of the screen
- Click on "Employees"
- Go down to "Payroll Taxes and Liabilities"
- Click on "Custom Liability Check"
Pick your Quarter or Timeframe, and it pulls a list of all of the taxes available for payment for the timeframe selected. You can create a check to pay VEC (or another Liability) this way! Sorry quickbooks wasn't willing to help any of us!!
Thank you so much for that update Shirleywelldrilling!!
It worked just fine!!! I hope others see this quickly!
Thank you Shirley!!!
It worked perfectly!
Hope others fine this helpful as well
THANK YOU!!!!!
thank you= worked perfectly and saved me some headache waiting on QB CS to give me the same answer as they did everyone else :)
Thank you! Was getting very frustrated trying to figure this out and knew calling them wasn't going to do a thing!
Wow! This has been driving me crazy for months, and had brought me to madness when trying to run reconciliations. Thanks a ton! I really do not like Quickbooks way of doing business. Like all of you, I'm in too deep to get out, but if I could......
Shirley, you are a godsend! This issue has driven me nuts for months, and then brought me to a standstill trying to reconcile my bank account. It's hard not to be profane when describing how much I despise dealing with Quickbooks and the way they do business - constantly figuring out ways to add and increase fees and offering the type of limp-brained help they did above. If I weren't in so deep with all of my records, I would drop this mess in a heartbeat. I'm sure I'm not alone with those sentiments. Thanks again to Shirley!
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome! Can't thank you enough! Thank you!!!!
