I filed 1099s & had them sent electronically. Quickbooks is asking vendors to sign into their intuit account to view 1099, but they don't have an account. Now what?

Adding to the chorus -- sad to see others experiencing the same issue since 2019...

I used QB Online to prepare 1099s. It took me the the 1099 E-file service, where I was ensured contractors would receive their copy electronically and by mail. My contractors' experience with electronic copy retrieval has been what others have described (broken links, trying to re-trigger invitations, etc.). No contractor to date seems to have succeeded.

More concerning is that it is now Mar 15, more than six weeks after e-filing, and I'm hearing that folks have not received hard copies via USPS either. Getting routed through customer service to discuss this was infernal. The 4th representative could finally advise on the E-file product but she could not tell me if or when 1099s were mailed. Told me to "just wait, things are backlogged". Literally the equivalent of the proverbial "it's in the mail". Previous representatives suggested I print and mail the forms myself, after having paid for that exact service.

I may end up having to distribute the forms myself...

Thank you for joining the thread, @kevynq. Let me share with you some insights about filing 1099s in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you set Intuit to file for your 1099s, aside from saving time and ensuring that everything is in order, it will also automatically send an email to your contractors.

On the other hand, if you manually file your 1099s, you’ll need to print them. You can check out this link and follow Step 2: Print your 1099s in the article.

In addition, I added the following articles for your reference about managing automatic tax payments and accessing payroll tax forms in QuickBooks Online.

Funny to see that Intuit was lying about mailing 1099s 2 years ago and is still getting away with this

I have a question also,

As a bookkeeper, I submitted the 1099's electronically, the contractor received an email to View the 1099, but then said that the invitation was expired?  what should I do?

Good morning, @Macoy

Thanks for chiming in on this thread. I can share some information to help your contractor view their 1099.

You can easily go to the contractor's profile to email the invite again. Here's how:

  1. Select Payroll from the sidebar menu.
  2. Go to the Contactors tab.
  3. Choose the contractor from the list.
  4. In the contractor's profile, click the Send a reminder link.
  5. From the Send a reminder window, click Send to resend the email.

Furthermore, your contractors should receive their 1099 copies about a week or two after the date they were e-filed. Please know that Tax1099 is our official partner in mailing the 1099s, you can follow the steps in this Tax1099 article, Where Can I See My Submitted Forms? to track the status of your tax forms.

I hope this helps. Come back if you run into any trouble along the way. I'm always here to have your back. Have a good one!
