I use Quickbooks Self Employed and need help. I only have one client I work with and one 'project'. How do I update my hourly rate only one time so that I don't have to retroactively change it after ever time I log hours?

Updating your hourly rate is quick and easy, @laura-m-farmer7-.

You can edit the hourly rate by going to the Time menu. From there you can change and enter the new hourly rate so you don't have to retroactively change it after every time.

Here's how: 

1. In your QBSE account, click the Time menu.
2. From the Time entry list, click the Edit button.
3. In the Hourly rate column enter the new rate.
4. Click Save.

Also, please know that the Time feature in QBSE is currently in beta, the estimated time as to when improvements will be added aren't available yet. Rest assured, our product developers are working to have these improvements rolled out as soon as possible.

In the Time menu, the only Edit I see is for each individual time entry which only allows me to update the rate after the fact. I've attached a screen grab.

I have an alternative way to get your hourly rate up to date in no time @Laura. 

I'd want to share some details on Time beta project management in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).

QBSE only allows you to adjust the hourly wage for your entries. At this point, editing the rate in the entire project in the Time function is currently unavailable.

To get your work done, you may consider creating a duplicate project. This way, you can add a new rate and use it for your upcoming entries. 

Here's how:

1. Go to the Gear icon and choose Time. 
2. Click the Project drop-down arrow and click +Add new project.
3. Enter the Project Name, Description, and Hourly rate. 
4. Hit Save.

Thank you for your reply. That unfortunately doesn't work for me as for some reason, I can't see any project titles from the project dropdown. Please see attachment. I just happen to know that the field under the grey area is the project I need to select. If there is a way to clear all of the projects in the menu, this option you provided may work?

I've got some troubleshooting steps to help you isolate and fix this issue. 

Let's access your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account in a private or incognito window. Then, update your hourly rate from there. This way, we can verify if this is a browser's cache issue.

Browser cache helps load web pages faster the next time you visit a site. However, too much of it causes latency that affects the performance of your accounts. Using a private window helps us verify the issue as this doesn't store any data files. 

To open a private window, you can refer to these keyboard shortcuts: 

• Google Chrome browser : Ctrl + Shift + N 
• Mozilla Firefox & Microsoft Edge browsers: Ctrl + Shift + P 
• Safari browser: Command + Shift + N 

If you’re able to seamlessly update your hourly rate, I’d propose deleting your regular browser's cache to refresh the system. If the issue remains, I suggest using other supported browsers. This way, we can see and check if this is a browser-specific issue.

Hello there. Even in incognito I am unable to see the project dropdown menu to access the project. Within the project is the only way I can access an Edit button to change the hourly rate.
