I want to view an employee's pay with a different salary outside of payroll. How would I change the salary to view the tax deductions and net pay prior to a payroll run?

Want to increase an employee's salary but first want to see the tax withholding before setting the salary.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), we have the Payroll Details report that you can run. It shows the paychecks you've created, including the amount, taxes, and deductions.

 

To pull up the report, here's how:

  1. In the left menu, click Reports.
  2. Type in Payroll Details in the search bar.
  3. Set the Date RangeEmployee, and Work Location.
  4. Click Run Report.

I appreciate the answer and this may help with another question I have but wasn’t the answer I was looking to receive on the question I had posted.  
My question was how to see the payroll deductions on a ‘fake’ paycheck without running a payroll.  I wanted to see if I raised an employee’s salary what the tax withholding would be prior to changing the salary.

I appreciate the help but I was wanting to prepare a ‘fake’ paycheck outside of payroll to see the tax withholding prior to changing the pay.

Hi there, srakes4.

 

There's no option to create a dummy paycheck outside of the Payroll menu. You can run a sample paycheck to view the taxes and not save it. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to the Employees menu and proceed to the Employees tab.
  2. Click the name of the employee and temporarily change the salary amount to the planned new rate. Then, click Done.
  3. Go back to the Employees tab and click Run payroll.
  4. Click the Pencil icon beside the amount of the net pay.
  5. Scroll-down a little bit and click Employee taxes to see the withholding amount. 
  6. Make sure to exit out of the window or click the X button in the upper-right hand corner. This will unsave the paycheck and not include it in the employee's record.

 

Go back to the employee's setup and change the salary back to the original amount. Let me also share these guide articles for additional reference just in case you might need them in your future tasks:
