Join nowI'm the owner of a small company (approx. 70 empls) and have been doing the payroll for the last 16 years. I plan on selling the company in the next 3 years and was told by the company that did our valuation that I need to turn over as many of my duties to my office staff to make my company more profitable to buyers. I'm all for that but want to know if there is a way to keep my salary private in QuickBooks. My employees will either be upset with my pay or feel sorry for me when they see how much I make. In any case I'm currently using QuickBooks Desktop. I don't want to transfer to another payroll service since I plan on selling shortly. Appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks
I appreciate you for sharing this idea with us, @JayBolt.
While you can limit what other users can see in your QuickBooks, for your case, keeping your salary private to anyone who will have the payroll job function isn't possible and advisable. The same thing applies to someone who will buy and own your business.
After identifying those limitations, we will chart a new way forward respecting both the needs of employers and employees.
I'm adding these guides that provide an overview of setting up an employee’s user type and role as well as its restrictions:

There isn't a way to keep select employees' salaries private while giving rights to a QB user to see payroll or banking information - or rights enough to do the payroll.
You could remove the salary from the employee record(s), but the paychecks will still include the past pay. So, any rights that allow viewing of the bank registers or reports that might include payroll will reveal the salary.
