Maine UPAF tax

After updating to Payroll Update 22104 , I still have not seen or found a way to add the new Maine UPAF tax. It seems that some people are able to see the new tax with the update and some are not. Can anyone clarify this? My CSSF rate has been adjusted correctly with the update, but the UPAF is still no where to be found!

Hello there, @MainePT.

Thanks for following the steps to update your Payroll to the latest release At the moment, our engineers are still working on bringing the new UPAF Assessment into QuickBooks Desktop.

We don't have an exact date on when this will be rolled out. Thus, you don't have to edit the rate or change anything in your payroll settings.

You can run payroll like you normally do. When an update for the CSSF and UPAF rates is available, QuickBooks Desktop will automatically correct the tax rates and adjust them on the next paychecks.

Additionally, you'll want to check this article for updates about the tax rates: Latest payroll news and updates.

I'm always here to address your payroll tax concerns. Have a great day ahead.

I too am facing the same problem.  The CSSF rate changed by itself, but the new tax type did not appear.  I thought that this was the fix!!!

Do we know how long this will take???

I am also having the same issue - I have updated to Tax Table Version 20106 and this has not been corrected.   When you click on Maine (highlighted - Action Required, I was not able to copy and paste this here) it brings you to the instructions but the instructions are wrong or the functionally has not been updated in QB Desktop payroll.

Maine
ME - Unemp. Prog. Admin. Fund (Unemployment Program Adminstrative Fund, or UPAF) is now a part of the 2021 tax table for employers. (22104)

Competitive Skills Scholarship Fund (CSSF) rate increased to 0.07% from 0.06% effective 1/1/2021. (22104)

New withholding tables effective 1/1/2021. (22101

QuickBooks Desktop Payroll

To collect the surcharge need to first update your payroll.

  1. Download and install the payroll update (22104 or later) released on January 28, 2021.
  2. When you create your next payroll, QuickBooks will prompt you to create the item called New Tax: ME - Unemp. Prog. Admin. Fund. To create the item now, select Employees then Pay Employees.
  3. When prompted, select No, it does not include the rate for ME-Unemp. Prog. Admin. Fund, then select Next.
  4. For the question “Have you already created your own payroll item?” select Yes or No, then select Next.
  5. Select Yes, please set up my employees., then select Next.
  6. Verify the rate is 0.13%, then select Next.
  7. Select Finish to exit the wizard.

If you’ve previously run payroll with Main unemployment, this new tax will recalculate on the next payroll.

Hello, I also have the old rate of .13% for our Maine UPAF, and no way to adjust it to .14%, which is the current rate as of 1/1/22.  I called customer payroll service a couple of days ago and was on the phone with a representative for a couple of hours, but we couldn't fix it. We updated everything and it still shows .13%. Any ideas?

Thank you.

Maine CSSF rate increased to .013% for 1/1/2024.

Quickbooks desktop payroll only gives me option of 0 and 0.07%.  When will this be updated?  This is a continuous yearly problem.  Why am I not just able to enter my own rate like I do for my Maine Unemployment Contribution Rate?

Thank you for posting your concern here in the community, Ambi.

I understand that it's crucial to adjust the CSSF to run your payroll in QuickBooks. However, know that at the moment, it's not possible to add the new higher rate for either the QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop versions. We have been informed about the rate change and are working on updating both products. To ensure that you can process payroll efficiently, allow me to direct you to the appropriate support team for further assistance regarding this matter.

I suggest getting in touch with our QuickBooks Online Support Team, as they are the best people to help you with your queries. They can request your account information and add you to the list of users who will receive a communication in the upcoming weeks once the option to add the rate becomes available in each product.

Here's how:

1. At the top of your QBDT login screen, click Help.

2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us.

3. When a prompt appears, select Contact Us located at the bottom.

4. Type in phrases or keywords on the What can we help you with? tab.

5. Then select How would like to connect with us?

· When you choose Chat - you'll be connected to our customer support team in a chat within the next five minutes.

· When you choose Callback, you’ll have a spot on our line, and call you back within five minutes.

You can find the list and access your state agency websites by checking this link: Access state agency websites for payroll.

Hit the Reply button if you have more inquiries about CSSF or any payroll-related matters in your QuickBooks Desktop. I'm always available to assist you with any further concerns.
