Turning off rounding decimal points

We can change the number format in your QBO, Br Mike.

The decimal point is set as default in the program. You can change how the amounts are displayed by adding a separator.

Here's how:

1. Click the Gear icon.
2. Under Your Company, select Account and Settings.
3. Click Advanced on the left panel.
4. Click the pencil icon in the Other preferences section.
5. Click the drop-down arrow beside the Number format section.
6. Select how you'd like the numbers to show.
7. Click Save and Done.

where and for what?

rate is a function of total sales price / qty, you can not change any decimal that is the result of the math.

Hi thanks for swift reply and your recommended solution.  We bill for call charges. As an example our "rate" is 2.3 cents per minute but the "amount" comes out rounded flat 2 cents per minute. On 500,000 minutes we have just lost, $150 USD any further suggestions mostly appreciated to display correct rate of 2.3 cents and not, 2.0 cents?

Quickbooks Online needs to change the decimal formatting , not everyone uses flat rates  please fix this we are not able to use the uploading of invoices due to this

We have many rates such as 1.85%  2.50% and the rate is rounding up

Currently, there isn't an option to change the decimal format of the rates of your transactions, like invoices and sales receipts.

I can see how it would be useful to have the ability to enter percentage rates in the transactions. However, QuickBooks only allow flat amounts as rates and will not accept the percentage rate.

The option to turn off rounding when creating transactions is unavailable. In payroll tax calculation, QuickBooks automatically round off the amount to have a flat rate to avoid discrepancies.

I'll personally share your product suggestion to our engineers about turning off the rounding in QuickBooks.

The Gear icon that they're referring to is only available in QuickBooks Online (QBO). For QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), the option to turn off rounding of decimal places when creating transactions is currently unavailable. As a workaround, you'll need to update or change the amount manually.

Let me step in and assist you with your concern.

You can check the Number format in the Other preferences in your QuickBooks if the format is setting up correctly. Please follow these steps on how:

1. Go to the Gear icon.
2. Select the Advanced tab.
3. Click the pencil icon in the Other preferences section.
4. In the Number Format field, choose the format you want to use.
5. Hit the Save button, then Done.

If the issue persists, you can perform basic troubleshooting to see if it's a browser issue or not. This way, you can clear the outdated file that causes a small problem with the Number format on your QuickBooks. Please open your QuickBooks via a private browser.

Here's how:

• Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
• Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
• Safari: Command + Shift + N
• Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

Then, check the Number format if it's now showing as $5.00. If you're able to do so without any errors, you can switch back to the main browser to clear the cache. You can also try using other browsers to isolate browser-related issues.

The option to turn off this feature is currently exclusive to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

What you can do in QuickBooks Desktop for Windows or Mac is to manually update the amounts when creating transactions. 

I suggest you keep an eye out for our blog site. It's where you can find Intuit product updates and news. Whenever this feature becomes available, you can be sure that you can find the update from the page I mentioned.

Hi all.  Not sure how to post a new question. But I want input an amount into my register without having to use the decimal point. Right now it's automatic. How do I change to what I'm used to from previous versions. I have QB for Mac 2021.  Thanks, John

Let me help share some information about decimal places in QuickBooks.

At this time, QuickBooks Desktop can only show two decimal places. We can't change the decimal places because the field only accepts two decimal places. Please see attached screenshot.

I've seen similar requests from other customers about the ability to change decimal places in QuickBooks. I'd suggest you also send a feature request about this. The more requests we receive about a specific feature, the more likely it gets implemented.

Here's how you can send feedback:

1. Go to the Help menu and select Send Feedback Online.

2. Click Product Suggestion.

Yeah, this is very frustrating when integrating 3rd party products and is shows the amount of hours worked as 85.4589 hrs. My customers have issues with it and always ask why they are being billed with decimal fractions. lol I wish there was a way to at least drop the last 2 digits and round up. 

How do I put 1 percent unemployment rate correctly into quickbooks for payroll tax?

State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rates must be entered as a percentage in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I'd be happy to guide you through the steps in setting it up correctly.

1. Sign in to your QBO account.
2. Click the Gear icon, then select Payroll Settings.
3. Select the State Tax.
4. Go to the State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Setup section.
5. Choose Change or Add new rate.
6. Refer to the notice from your state and enter your new rate. If the rate is provided as a decimal, you must enter it as a percentage. (For example, enter 1% not 0.01).
7. Enter the Effective Date provided in the notice from your state.
8. Click OK.

If you aren't sure about the SUI rate, I recommend contacting your state's unemployment division to confirm.
