Verifying Direct Deposit Bank for payroll

How long after seeing this message should I see the debit from my bank account? I signed up for enhanced payroll yesterday and did the work to connect my bank.

"We're getting your bank account ready

We’ll debit less than $1 from your bank. Once you see the debit appear on your bank statement, log in to QuickBooks to enter the debit amount and finish verifying your bank account: "

I'm trying to run payroll ASAP, and I'd like to know if this will be hours or days before I can run it.

Verifying Direct Deposit Bank for payroll

Hi there, @kingaaronj.

Good to see you here in QuickBooks Community. I'm here to help and provide some insights about Direct Deposit in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

After signing up a Direct Deposit, Intuit makes two small withdrawals of less than $1.00 each from the bank account you set up. A test transaction should appear in your bank account in 2 business days. You can verify the amount either by checking your bank statement online or by calling your bank.

Once done, you'll need to confirm the test transaction amount to completely activate your Direct Deposit. Let me walk you through the steps:

  1. From the left menu, select Workers.
  2. Click the Employees.
  3. Select Finish payroll tasks on the main Employees page.
  4. Click Verify the test deposit now.
  5. Enter the test transaction amount in both boxes (less than $1.00). Enter the pennies only, without a dollar sign or decimal point.
  6. Click OK

For additional reference, you can check these articles to learn more about Direct Deposit:

If you need further assistance with the steps, I encourage you to contact our QuickBooks Online Support Team. They have additional tools to pull up your account and do a remote session.

That should do it! Don't hesitate to click the Reply button below if you have any other concerns about Direct Deposit. I'm always here to help you out.

Verifying Direct Deposit Bank for payroll

Hi Jany,
This information seems to be out of date. There is no menu option that says "workers" only one that says "employees." Inside that menu item there is no "finish payroll tasks."

Verifying Direct Deposit Bank for payroll

I have been trying to verify checking account for direct deposit activation for two weeks now.  Any thoughts or other options?  The test amounts are not being received by the bank. Confirmed bank information on QB correct.  I'm using 2018 Desktop Pro Enhance Payroll.

Thank you for your help. Have been spending hours trying to resolve.

Hello, @hydrocleanva.

I'm here to share some information to ensure that you're able to successfully verify your direct deposit.

Let's first make sure that your QuickBooks software is updated to the latest version. Then, let's review how direct deposit information is set up in your account. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Employees menu.
  2. Select My Payroll Service, then select Accounts/Billing Information.
  3. You'll be routed to go and sign in to your Intuit Account.
  4. On the Direct Deposit section, click your bank details.
  5. Click OK to confirm the message.
  6. Enter your payroll PIN, then click Submit.
  7. Enter your new bank account details, then click Submit.
  8. Click Continue after the confirmation.
  9. Click your account where QuickBooks should post transactions returned by Intuit Service.

After 1-2 banking days, two small test debits will be taken out of your bank statements. You can enter these debit amounts on our Account Maintenance page. You can through this article for the detailed steps on how to enter the debit amounts: Change your direct deposit bank account. Then, go to the Active your new direct deposit bank account section.

Also, I added these articles to learn more about setting up payroll DD in QuickBooks Desktop:

If still don't receive the test transaction, I'd recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Team. A specialist can also help guide you through the process if you need further assistance.

Verifying Direct Deposit Bank for payroll

I'm using QB Desktop Pro Plus with payroll. I have been trying to verify my account for direct deposit for 5 days. Three days ago, the first of two small withdrawals went through. I have been patiently waiting for the second one to go through. When I go to Employees, then My Payroll Service", I still don't have the option to  "Activate Direct Deposit." I can't even write checks. When I tried, everything printed except company and bank info.

Let's get this sorted out so you'll be able to verify your account for direct deposit (DD) in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Payroll, @jungers.

You can start by making sure you have the updated version of QBDT and then get the newest payroll tax table. This way, you'll always have the latest features and fixes, stay compliant with paycheck calculations, and allows you to verify your account for DD.

Once you're done, follow these steps to activate your payroll DD:

  1. Go to the Employees menu.
  2. Select My Payroll Services.
  3. Click Activate Direct Deposit

In case the issue persists, and you still haven't received the second of two small withdrawals, I'd recommend contacting our Payroll Care team. They can investigate why you haven't received your second withdrawal amount, guide you with a fix, and help activate your DD account.

Once activated, you're set to send paychecks and pay employees/contractors with DD in QBDT. You can check out these articles to learn more about the processes:

If you have other payroll concerns and questions about activating direct deposit in QBDT Payroll, please don't hesitate to leave a comment below. I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @jungers.

Verifying Direct Deposit Bank for payroll

Hello there, @Martiux. I'd be delighted to provide some information about verifying your bank account in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

QBO makes two small withdrawals of less than $1.00 each from the bank account you set up after you sign up for Direct Deposit. In two business days, a test transaction should show up in your bank account. You can verify the amount either by checking your bank statement online or by calling your bank.

After that, you can confirm the amount and activate your Direct Deposit by following these steps. For QBO Payroll Enhanced:

  1. Select the Payroll menu, then Employees.
  2. Click Finish payroll tasks on the main Employees page.
  3. Select Verify the test deposit now.
  4. Enter the test transaction amount in both boxes (less than $1.00). Enter the pennies only, without a dollar sign or decimal point.

If the New payroll tasks option isn't available, here's another way to verify test transactions:

  1. Select Settings  ⚙, then choose Payroll Settings
  2. Under Bank Accounts, select Company.
  3. Click Verify Account, then enter and confirm the amount.

Please keep in mind that you will only be given one attempt to verify your test transaction. If you aren't successful, contact Payroll Support for assistance.

Follow the steps in this article for additional QBO Payroll versions: How to verify a test transaction made to your bank account

Additionally, after you've successfully activate direct deposit, you can refer to the support articles below for running your payroll:

Hey there, Brian84020. Allow me to help share some information regarding resending direct deposit debit in QuickBooks Online.

You'll need to change the bank account information to resend the debit. Once changed, you'll need to wait 2-3 business days for the two small debits taken from your account as a test transaction.

Here's how to change the account:

  1. Click the Gear icon ⚙ then Payroll Settings.
  2. Look for the section titled Bank Accounts.
  3. In the section titled Bank Accounts, select Edit ✎.
  4. Tap Update and select Add new bank account.
  5. If you bank with one of the 8 banks listed, select the bank and enter your online banking user ID and password. Otherwise, search your bank name or select Enter bank info manually.
  6. Enter your routing and account number, then select Save.
  7. Hit Accept and Submit.

To know more about this process, check out the following articles. These will provide you details on how to verify the debits as well as changing your account preferences in QuickBooks:

Verify test transaction.

I'd be more than willing to lend you a hand if you need additional assistance. Have a great rest of your day!
