Void or delete a tax liability check that has wrong dates for quarter

I created a check for the quarter to file unemployment liability but only included the last month in the dates where the quarter dates should have been entered. Do I void or delete this check?

Void or delete a tax liability check that has wrong dates for quarter

Hey there, inflnc.

I'm here to help you with correcting a liability check that has wrong quarter dates.

You can delete and a create new liability check to correct the old check that contains wrong dates.

Create a liability check:

  1. Select the Plus icon (+) at the top then Check.
  2. From the Bank Account drop-down, choose the account you use for liability payments.
  3. From the Choose a payee drop-down, choose the vendor.
  4. In the Account details section, select the account you use for tracking your liability payments then enter the amount. If you’re not sure which account/s to select, follow these steps to check your liability preferences:
    1. Select Workers from the left menu.
    2. Go to the Employees tab then select the Payroll Setup.
    3. In the center column, select Accounting.
    4. Under the Tax Liability Accounts, you will see your current liability preferences.
  5. If you have sub-accounts for each agency you are paying, make sure to point to those specific accounts and enter the appropriate amount for the agency.
  6. Fill in the rest of the check as you normally would then select Save.

Void or delete a tax liability check that has wrong dates for quarter

Hello! Did you ever get an answer for this? I recently had to delete a liability check for sales tax because the EFT amount didnt match my check amount.  I was wondering how to enter a new liabilty check without it affecting the future dates and amounts due.  Thank you!

Void or delete a tax liability check that has wrong dates for quarter

Hello there, mermaidgurl.

Thanks for checking in with us. Let's get this straightened out for you.

You can make a sales tax adjustment. The positive or negative adjustment is determined by the type of account you use on the adjustment. Choosing Expense as an account, creates a positive adjustment, because that is increasing how much you are spending. While choosing Income creates a negative adjustment, because that's less you'll have to pay. Doing this will not affect future dates and amounts due.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes on the left menu.
  2. Choose Sales Tax.
  3. Click Record Tax Payment button.
  4. Check the box for Make Adjustment.
  5. Enter the payment.
  6. Click the Record Tax Payment.

I've got you an article and a screenshot below should you need reference. For the article, you can proceed to Record or adjust a tax payment: Manage sales tax payments.

I'm always around if you have any other concerns. Just make sure to leave a comment below and I'll get back to you.
