How do you track your time? Manually or using a time tracker app?
I'm here to help share information about time tracking, @jared-nychelpdes.
You have two options to track time for your team in QuickBooks Online. Let me share them and give you an overview so you're able to decide what works best for your business needs.
Timesheets allow you to enter and track time for your team. A single timesheet activity helps track the time consumed by your team working daily. I'm adding this article to learn more about tracking and using a timesheet: Enter a Single Time Activity Timesheet.
Meanwhile, you're able to integrate an application to let your team track time on the field their working. With a subscription for QuickBooks Online Payroll, this app allows you to manage timesheets and let your team track time on their own.
If you want to use and integrate this application, here's a link for instructions: Set up and Use the QuickBooks Online Payroll Integration with QuickBooks Time.
Lastly, I've also included this reference discussing how you can present a time activity to your client: Enter Billable Time in QuickBooks Online.
If there's anything else that I can help you with besides this tracking time concern, please let me know using the Reply option below. I'll be here to lend a hand. Take care always!
Thank you for your response. I went to try and use the timesheet but my name does not show up in the list of employees to track time in the project. I went to add my name to the Payroll, but I guess because I am the owner it tells me my name is already taken. How can I track my own time when I don't show up in the list of employees? Thank you!
Here is what I see when I try to add myself as an employee http://icecream.me/313dd11e8ae07f23d76190b614e8a6cd
Here is the list I am trying to get on: http://icecream.me/b47fbe12429d4f8484a1fb4f2b5273ed
Thank you!
I appreciate you for getting back to us here in the Community. I'm here to help you add your name to the employee list in QuickBooks Online.
You can still add your name even though you're the owner of the business. Based on the error message, your name is already part of the list in QuickBooks.
I recommend reviewing the names shown in the system and filter to show employees tagged as Inactive. This process will help you verify the list.
Here's how:
Also, review the Customers or Vendors section to check if your name is showing in the list. From the left navigation, hover your cursor to Expenses or Sales, then select Customers or Vendors (see screenshot below).
I've also attached an article you can use if you need to edit employee information in the future: Edit or change employee info in payroll.
Leave a comment below if you have other concerns related to tracking time in QuickBooks. The Community and I will be around to help you.
Thanks, but I don't get that option to filter employees. I only have 9 of them http://icecream.me/a844f2a17ebe7c56946a0f915d8dcfd5
and I am not in the list. I still can't add my own time to the time sheets...
Thank you for getting back to us and providing us with more details about the concern that you're having, @jared-nychelpdes.
It's possible that the piled-up cache in your regular browser caused this missing dropdown menu. You can clear your current browser’s cache to resolve this.
First, you'll have to sign in to your account using a private browser. This helps isolate the issue since it doesn’t store data in the cache. Here are the following keyboard shortcuts:
If it works, here's how to clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online. Restart your browser right after.
You can also try to your lists using other supported browsers (Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge) if the steps above didn’t work.
Check this article for more information about adding a new employee to your account: Add a new employee to your payroll. Here's also a guide about changing your employee information: Edit or change employee info in payroll.
