Suddenly, Child support deduction is wrong?

Pre-Covid... I had been deducting Child Support from one of my staff successfully.  It was deducted correctly, then the payment showed up on the "Pay Taxes and Other Liabilities".  All good.

Suddenly, it seems it has all broken... but I changed NOTHING in this area.
I hired him back 4 weeks ago, and the last two paychecks have deducted the funds from his paycheck... but PAYING those funds to the state have been problematic.
The Child Support isn't showing up on the "Pay Taxes and Other Liabilities" area.  Screenshot 2020-08-20 11.38.18.png

When I chose "Create Custom Payments" to try to send this money to the state... I get a popup that says the payroll liability is negative and cannot create a negative check.

While I'm looking at this... I was also baffled to see that the Group Health Plan Premium was negative... is there some sort of bug all of a sudden?

Thanks for your help.  I'd like to pay this bill (properly) and have everything work like it did again.

Suddenly, Child support deduction is wrong?

Hello there, TheMusicGirlAZ. Thanks for providing detailed information about your concern.

I have some troubleshooting steps for you to resolve this.

You'll want to start updating QuickBooks Desktop to its latest release. Here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Go to the File menu at the top.
  2. Then, Close Company/Logoff.
  3. Go back to the File menu and choose Exit.
  4. Right-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon on your desktop, then select Run as administrator.
  5. While on the No Company Open screen, pick Update QuickBooks from the Help menu.
  6. In the Options tab, choose Mark All and Save.
  7. Mark the Reset Update box in the Update Now tab.
  8. Click the Get Updates button.
  9. Once the Update Complete appears, close and re-open the program.
  10. If you get the message to install update, select Yes. Restart your computer after the installation.

Once done, proceed by downloading the latest tax table update:

  1. From the Employees menu, choose Get Payroll Updates
  2. Select Download entire payroll update.
  3. Click Update
  4. A message, such as "A new tax table and/or updates to your payroll tax forms have been installed on your computer" will show once the update is complete.
  5. Pick Ok

You can consider checking out these articles for a more detailed steps:

After that, try to check the Pay Taxes and Other Liabilities area again. Check to see if everything is now working fine.

Leave a comment below if you have other payroll questions, I'm here to answer it for you. Have a great day!

Suddenly, Child support deduction is wrong?

Thanks for the detailed instructions...

The Child support item is still missing from the Pay Liabilities area.
Create custom payments... the item is still listed as a negative check...

Sadly... nothing was fixed.
Now what?

I appreciate the screenshot you've provided, TheMusicGirlAZ.

Let's perform another troubleshooting steps to get this fixed. Verifying and rebuilding resolves possible data damage to your company file. You can consider this as the reason why unusual responses in the system occur. This tool resolves the most common data issues.

Let me show you how to verify your data:

  1. Choose Window then Close All.
  2. Verify Data. Choose File then Utilities. Select Verify Data. If you see:
    • "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data," no further action is needed.
    • A specific error message, there may already be an article for it. Try searching for it in our QuickBooks Desktop support site for specific instructions.
    • "Your data has lost integrity," indicates there is data damage in the file.  Continue to the steps below to Rebuild Data to correct the problem.

Note: Assisted Payroll customers should consult an Assisted Payroll agent before running Rebuild Data.

To learn the more detailed process, please check out this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop

These steps, QuickBooks identifies and resolves possible issues of your company file. Here's a link about fixing data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file for your guide.

It'll always be my pleasure to help if you have any other questions. I'm always around ready to help.

Which sucks, because the Child Support deductions are still not showing up on the Pay Liabilities area.

What else should I try?
