Trying to change the State unemployment rate in QB online but I do not see the same buttons they reference in the QB online help process

You probably followed the steps intended for the Intuit Online Payroll, service3.

If you received a notice from the state agency, you can directly go to the Payroll Settings and update the rate there. If not, you'll only be allowed to delete or edit the rate if you haven't created paychecks using the wrong one.

Here are the steps to edit the state unemployment rate in QBO:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Under Your Company, click Payroll Settings.
  3. Select the State Tax.
  4. In the State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Setup section, click Change or Add new rate.
  5. Refer to your notice from your state and enter your new rate. If the rate is provided as a decimal, you must enter it as a percentage. For example, enter 3.4% (not .034).
  6. Enter the Effective Date provided in the notice from your state.
  7. Select OK.

If there's a tax overpayment after changing the rate, it will be displayed as a negative amount of the tax owed. When this happens, you can contact your state unemployment agency to confirm that the tax was overpaid. This way you'll be given options whether to apply the credit to future debt, or refund it to your account. Then, you can give us a call to assist you with reconciling the credit.

You can also refer to this article for more details about changing the SUI tax rates.

If you need anything else, please let me know. Thanks for dropping by.

Trying to change the State unemployment rate in QB online but I do not see the same buttons they reference in the QB online help process

I had the same problem.  After Entering the New Rate and Effective Date, I hit the tab key repeatedly until I had tabbed through all of the old rates.  At the end, the OK button appeared.

Kinda weird but it worked.

I had the same problem.  After entering the New Rate and Effective Date, I hit the Tab Key repeatedly.  After tabbing through all of the past rates, the OK button appeared at the bottom.  I was able to click OK and proceed through the process.

Trying to change the State unemployment rate in QB online but I do not see the same buttons they reference in the QB online help process

Hi there, @Bird Inc.

Thank you for joining this thread and providing details. I'm glad to know that you're able to change your state unemployment rate.

In case you experience the same thing, I'd advise performing some basic troubleshooting steps. You can start with using a private browser or incognito to determine if it's a browser related issue. You can refer to these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Internet Explorer: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

If this works, switch back to the regular browser and clear your browser's cache to start fresh. It could be the browser is holding too much data, and this is what's causing unexpected behavior while using the product.

Let me know if there's anything else you need or you have payroll questions. I'm here to help you more. Wishing you all the best.

Trying to change the State unemployment rate in QB online but I do not see the same buttons they reference in the QB online help process

I am attempting to view (and change if incorrect) my company's unemployment tax rate.

I can get to the payroll settings - but there is no option for 'State Tax' within this screen.

What am I missing?

The option to add the Texas State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rate in the Payroll Tax Center page is unavailable. However, we can go to the Payroll Settings page to add the SUI rate in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon on the top menu.
  2. Choose Payroll Settings.
  3. Under Taxes, hit State Taxes - TX link.
  4. In the TXState Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Setup section, tick the Change or add new rate link.
  5. Enter the rate and the date in the New and Effective Date field.
  6. Tap OK.

For more details about this one, please refer to this article: Enter or change state unemployment insurance (SUI) tax rates.

I have a link here where you can find articles about managing employee's payroll: Pay employees, enter timesheets, and send payroll forms.

Keep me posted by leaving a comment below if you need a hand with running payroll reports or any QBO related. I'll be here to help.

There is not an option to change the OA Rate for Texas. I need it set at .03%. That is not an option. It just gives me 0.00 %. I need this changed.
