Using new QB Core Payroll product. System says it has exported payroll to QB 2019 for Mac DESKTOP. It did not. Any idea how to export the transactions?

Hi there, @Scott Ciener. I'm determined to ensure you can import your transactions to QuickBooks Desktop.

To check if your payroll transactions were exported successfully, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Lists menu.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Double-click the account you use to pay your employees. The account register shows the transactions you exported.

If they aren't showing, I've outlined the steps below for your guidance. First, you'll have to export the files from QBO to QuickBooks Desktop for Windows. Then, convert them to Mac.

Step 1:Export your files from QBO to QBDT for WindowsIf you don't have a license to QuickBooks Desktop for Windows, you can download a trial to use for this process.

Step 2: Convert the Windows company file to Mac.

  1. Open the company file in QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.
  2. Re-sort lists.
  3. Rebuild and verify your data file.
  4. Go to the File menu, select Utilities, then Copy Company File for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.
  5. Save the file in your desired location (this creates a file with the extension MAC.qbb)
  6. Copy the file to a DVD, external hard drive, flash drive, or FTP web site.
  7. Restore the file in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.
           a. In the No Company Open window, select Browse.

    b. Locate the file you want to restore.
           c. If your QuickBooks Windows file is on an external drive, save it locally by dragging it to the desired location before restoring it to avoid data corruption.
           d. Click OK when you get the prompt asking if you want to restore a QBDT for Windows file.
           e. Enter a name for the restored file, then click Save.

Sorry, but this is not a solution.  Does the new system really not work with QB 2019 for Mac Desktop?  I need to use a trial version of another product forever?  Even if I use this, how will these transactions be integrated into my Mac QB file?

We don't want you to feel this inconvenience, @Scott Ciener

At this time, you can only move data to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac from QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier or Premier Accountant editions.

If you've previously used QuickBooks Online (QBO), you'll have to move the file first to QuickBooks Desktop for Windows. After that, you can now transfer it to QBDT for Mac.

To move your transactions from QBO to QBDT for Mac, you can follow the steps outlined by LieraMarie_A above.

The ability to move directly from your QB Core Payroll product to QBDT for Mac will surely make this task more convenient as possible. I'll be sure to take note of this. For now, you can visit the QuickBooks Blog to check for new updates and features that we have.

I also invite you to visit the Firm of the Future site. It contains resources and tips to help easily use QuickBooks.

Has there been a solution to this yet?  I used Quickbooks payroll services through qb Mac 2019 for nearly a decade without incident. Then was it was discontinued and forced to use qb online without export capability. Yet of course still being charged the same rate without the service working properly.

I can show you the new process in exporting your payroll data into QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, PatNels.

While the option to directly export your payroll data to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, you'll want to export your selected paychecks to MS Excel and convert it to an .IIF file. This way, you can upload the checks to your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Payroll menu in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Select the Employees tab.
  3. Click the Paycheck list link under the Run payroll button.
  4. Filter the date of the check you want to export.
  5. Put a checkmark in the box for one or more checks to export
  6. Click the Share drop-down menu, and click Export To Excel

Once done, you'll want to look for a third-party app that lets you convert the Excel file to an IIF file. Then you can import the file to your QBDT for Mac.

I'm willing to help you out in moving your payroll data. If there's something you need assistance with, tag me in your reply and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for the response.

So I found that if you follow the above instructions, you are able to select export to accounting. This will export a QBO file that imports the transactions into Quickbooks Mac 2019 just as before.  The same is able to be done with tax payments by selecting each or all from tax payment history.

There is no longer an option to export as a QBO file.  We are now back to square one with no option for exporting to Quickbooks Desktop Mac.   Can we have the QBO export option back? Or am I going to have to find a new payroll option for my business?
