Why am I not able to make electronic Federal Tax (Form 941) payments any longer?

I have been making federal tax payments from within Quickbooks for 3 years. This recently stopped working. The form was not auto-generated and the message shown says "Electronic Payment Not Available" in the Payroll Tax Center. What changed?

Let's check if your E-Service status is still active. It could be that the setting was changed which resulted in this error. You can follow these steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Payroll Settings.
  2. Go to the Electronic Services or E-file and E-pay tab.
  3. Below Electronic Services (E-Services) Enrollment, check the status of the Federal E-Pay & E-File.

Also, you'll want to reach out to our Payroll Specialist so they can further check it and provide the necessary actions.

 

The new "Help" menu interface: 

  1. Click the (?) Help icon and choose the Talk to a human option (then type it again when prompted).
  2. When asked by the bot, enter the entire prompt message.
  3. Select I still need a human, then proceed with Contact us.
  4. Tap Let’s talk then choose either Get a call or Start messaging

For the old "Help" menu:

  1. Click the Help icon, then the Contact Us button.
  2. Enter the entire prompt message in the What can we help you with box.
  3. Proceed with the Let's talk button.
  4. Select either Start messaging or Get a call button.

Thanks for the quick reply Alex V.    That's actually the first place I checked and found no issues with the setup.  I attempted the "I still need a human" twice last week and it didn't work.  I will have to try it again tomorrow so I can get this fixed.

Thanks for the quick response Alex V.  The e-file and pay settings were checked last week and again last night.  The settings were and are accurate and haven't been changed in the last 3 years.  I also attempted to reach a human last week and waited over 1.5 hours with no luck.  I will of course attempt during business hours as this has to get resolved immediately.

The information said to start with the "gear" icon.  Where is that located?

I have e-filed for years and suddenly my tax deposit is being rejected.

I use the desktop version and payroll program.

Hello @dkc1015! Thank you for reaching out to us here for help with your tax deposit. I definitely want to point you in the right direction and get this cleared up.

 

The gear icon steps are for customers with QuickBooks Online. Since you have QuickBooks Desktop, there's a different place for you to get the information you need. 

 

In QuickBooks Desktop, open the E-payment History window.

  1. Go to Employees menu > Payroll Center.
  2. From the Payroll Center, go to the Pay Liabilities tab.
  3. In the Payment History section, click E-Payments tab.
  4. You'll see in the Status column that it says Agency Rejected. Click the Agency Rejected link.
  5. In the E-payment Rejected window, review the payment info and the problem and solution messages sent by the agency.
  6. Click Void Rejected E-payment.
  7. You may now either resubmit the e-payment or create a printed liability check.
    • If you choose to resubmit the e-payment, it is important that you check the status again after resubmitting.
