Welcome to the Community, ezrancs.

QuickBooks Desktop for Mac and QuickBooks Desktop for Windows are two different platform and has a separate license. You can't install QBDT windows on mac and vise versa.

Click this link to check your license and the product number: License and product numbers.

In case  you need reference on how to downloaded and installed the QuickBooks 2021 version, just click the given links. Then, ensure that your computer/laptop meets the system requirements so you can run QuickBooks Desktop without any issues.

Here's a link that will help you learn more about how the QBDT for Windows works: Help articles for QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, I'll leave you with a guide to know anything about QuickBooks Desktop for Mac: QuickBooks Desktop Mac 2021 User’s Guide.

Feel free to go back to this thread if you need anything else while working with the QuickBooks Desktop software. Have a good one.

@ezrancs

You may have 3 options:

1. Utilize Parallels on your Mac to install and run Windows 7 and your outdated QBD 2017 license.

2. Install and run your QBD license on your PC and deploy a private cloud. Access your company file on Mac by internet connection.

3. Run a remote desktop app

1. requires you also purchase a licensed copy of Windows, can you even buy W7? end cost may exceed just buying a new Mac version of QB if all you plan on using going forward is the Mac

2. requires same version of QB be installed on all computers  - you cannot just access cloud hosted Quickbooks without also having QB installed (unless you convert to Online)

3. Best bet other than....

4. Convert your company file to Online version (QBO) which is browser based and not dependant at all on the device operating system as long as it (preferrable) can run Chrome and access the internet

You will only install and run QB on the host. Other computer(s) will access the host by the internet connection.

If my co worker and I both wanted to use quick books and one of us has a mac and the other a windows computer. Can we use the same quick books account and will the quick book account be synchronised?

Thanks for joining this thread, Shak Business.

I can certainly understand how an ability to use the same QuickBooks account and synchronize it between both Windows and Mac computers could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

You can also submit your own feature requests while using QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. In the top menu bar, go to Help, Send Feedback Online, then Product Suggestion....
  2. Choose a Type of Feedback and Product Area (optional) from your available drop-down menus.
  3. Enter any suggestions/feedback in the Here is my suggestion: field.
  4. If you'd like, include your name/email in the My name is: (optional) and My e-mail address is: (optional) fields.
  5. Select Send Feedback.

Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.

If you'd like, you can check our QuickBooks App Store for apps which may be able to help you achieve what you're trying to do. There's also some things you can consider looking into which were posted by john-pero and Fiat Lux - ASIA in this thread.

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have an awesome Friday!

You may have 2 options:

1. QB Desktop Pro/Premier for 2 users + a 3rd party solution. The Mac user will access and work on the same company file over the internet. You can still purchase the one time license for QBD 2021 if required.

2. QB Online

It's 2024.  Is the solution to for QB on both a PC and Mac still to access QB via the cloud?  Are there any current changes to how to solve this coupling?

I'll shed some light on how to access QuickBooks Desktop for Mac and Desktop for Windows via the cloud, @Susanne29.

QuickBooks Desktop for Mac and QuickBooks Desktop for Windows are two different platforms and have a separate license. You can't install QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT)windows on Mac and vice versa.

In case you need reference on your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac from multiple devices connected to iCloud learn how Rightworks makes it easy to work with your team through cloud-enabled QuickBooks Desktop. I'll send these articles so that you can view the changes for both QuickBooks Desktop also:

If you need any assistance while using QuickBooks Desktop software, feel free to come back to this thread. Have a great day!

@Susanne29

Another option, run QB Desktop Windows with Parallels on your Mac.
