Is it a bank transactions file? Have you tried on your private/incognito browser?

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to get your CSV file imported in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), organizingmoms.

There are times when a browser's cache data becomes full of frequently accessed websites or damaged. This causes an issue when importing your CSV file to QBSE. We can press the F5 key on your keyboard to refresh the page. Then, try signing in to your account using a private or incognito window. This mode doesn't use the existing cache data and helps us confirm browser-related issues. Here's how:

  • For Google Chrome browser: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Mozilla Firefox browser: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Safari browser: Command + Option + P

Next, make sure your file is using the 3-column or 4-column format for the CSV file to ensure the import is successful. Once done, you can import bank transactions again with no error. Let me show you how:

  1. Open QBSE in a web browser. Then, click the Gear icon.
  2. Tap Imports.
  3. Choose the account you want to add the transactions into, then click Import older transactions under Action.
  4. Click Browse and find the file you downloaded from your bank.
  5. Select the file and hit Open to start the import.
  6. Review the column headers and data. Make sure the DateDescription, and Amount columns on the CSV match the columns and order in QuickBooks.
  7. Hit Continue to complete the import.

See the Manually import transactions into QuickBooks Self-Employed article for more details. You can also manually add transactions in QBSE to enter your income and expenses.

If it works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete those temporarily stored files and browsing history. The overtime collection of data can create corruption, however, removing this should fix the issue. You can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers to roll out the possibility of a browser-related issue.

Then, you can edit, assign, and categorize your transactions. This helps you ensure the accuracy of your financial records. Additionally, you can visit the following write-up regarding how Schedule C categories show up on your financial reports: Schedule C and expense categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Feel free to update us on the result of this troubleshooting in the comment below. I'd like to ensure this is resolved for you. You have a good one.

I was getting this error as well. I just made sure the CSV table had only three columns, and I removed the header row (which I had labelled as Date, Description, Amount - delete this row). I then re-exported the CSV from numbers (mac) and it uploaded fine! I guess that quickbooks doesn't like it when one of the rows has something in it other than dates, descriptions, and amounts.

I know this was a really old post, but I hope this helps someone else reading.
