I am getting the following error when trying to down load my BOA statements... Something’s not quite right The uploaded file isn't a valid Web Connect file.

Hi there, @kwvint.

I have some information to share on how you can get past the error that you receive so you can download your BOA statements successfully.

in QuickBooks Online.

When downloading files in QuickBooks Online, make sure that it meets the QBO file requirements. The system allows 350 KB, which is the maximum file to be uploaded.

Besides, you'll need to verify that the file you're using is supported in QBO. These are the following file types:

  • Comma-Separated Values (CSV). CSV files may require additional mapping. See Import bank transactions from Excel CSV file to QuickBooks Online for more information
  • Quicken (QFX)
  • QuickBooks Online (QBO)
  • Microsoft Money (OFX)

Once verified and the problem continues, I'd suggest contacting our Customer Care Team. They have the tools that can check on your statements and determine the root cause of this matter. They can also open an investigation ticket if necessary.

You can also visit these links I've attached below about manually uploading your bank transaction and fixing upload errors in QBO:

I got your back if you have any other questions. I'm always here to help. Wishing you all the best and take care.

HI there team!

Any update on the qbo upload error?

My Chase transactions are importing but all my transactions from BOA report that the file is not valid.

However this is a QBO file.

Any idea when this will be fixed?

Thank you!

Hello MG,

Shorter answer appears to be "no."

I don't know about you, but I don't have to for screensharing tech support right now. With workaround below a single file takes 3-5 minutes to download, modify, and import.

Download the CSV from the bank, then find the three columns that matter.

1. Date

2. Memo

3. Amount

For BOA credit card .csv, I deleted columns A, B, D, E. The remaining first 3 columns are date, memo, amount (positive and negative). Now I go to the account through the QBO dashboard, click upload file, browse/upload, next, and get to the CSV dialogue. Select 1-date column A, 2-description/memo column B, and 3-amount column C (both positive and negative radio button), then import. Rules don't work as well, and there is no vendor info, but for small companies I work with, this way isn't terrible.

If there's a bank charge for QB webconnect access, I'd shut it off. There are messages in the community going back a couple of months with this same problem, and it's getting bigger.

Hello there, @Sibyl.

The error (The uploaded file isn't a valid WebConnect file) appears if the file type is invalid or it's incorrectly formatted. To download it successfully, check other file types that the bank site offers.

Once done, review the file format to ensure no additional columns and empty spaces. For more information on how to check the format, please refer to the following article: Import Bank Transactions Using Excel CSV Files.

If you get the same result, I suggest contacting our QBO Support Team. Checking the root cause of this requires tools, like screen sharing, that only the team has. They can also create an investigation ticket if the issue persists.

I've also attached an article you can use to manage downloaded transactions in QuickBooks: Match and Categorize Bank Transactions.

Please know that I'm just a post away if you have any other questions. Take care.

Gah the account type/CSV import doesn't know the difference between debits and credits. It imports charges as credits and, comically, books them all as payments! You have to invert everything (multiply all transactions by negative one, paste values into column three) before import.

Shorter: nevermind what I said; call qb support or follow that link they put up.

Hello there, CFE 551857.

I'm here to share details about importing CSV file in QuickBooks. This way, you'll be able to use the right template to upload your transactions to keep your account updated.

You can import CSV files that use either a 3-column or 4-column format. To indicate the credit and debit amounts, I'd recommend using the 4-column format. It has the DateDescription, Credit, and Debit columns.

Please note that to successfully import your CSV file, it must be formatted correctly. You can also consider to check the following:

  • Remove zeros (0) and leave those cells blank.
  • Correct any transactions that display a number in the Description column.
  • Remove the word "amount" if it appears in the name of the Credit or Debit column.
  • Correct and standardize the Date format to a single format (for example, dd/mm/yyyy).

Once everything is all set, you can now upload your CSV file in the Banking menu.

After the import, you can enter any additional information in the For Review tab. To manage your downloaded transactions, kindly refer to this article for the detailed steps: Match and categorize bank transactions in QuickBooks Online. It also contains information on how to exclude personal or duplicate transactions.

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help.

Hi there,

I am having the same issue and error when trying to upload BofA credit card statements via .qbo file. It has worked fine in the past, and I'd prefer not to have to mess around with editing .csv files. Is there a fix coming?

Thanks!

I am getting the following error when trying to down load my BOA statements... Something’s not quite right The uploaded file isn't a valid Web Connect file.

As the person wrote above this supposed "fix", it has always worked fine to download the file from Bank of America and upload it into QB. For the last month, I have been unable to get my transactions as I get an error that says: The uploaded file isn't a valid Web Connect file.

This is NOT true. It IS a valid web connect file and has worked for a long time.

I do not have time to do it as another type of download and re-format and more, I need to be able to either connect a business credit card and get all of the transactions for all three cardholders OR be able to manually download the file from Bank of America as a WEB Connect for Quickbooks 2017 and above which is a qbo file and then upload it into QB like I did for a year.

Thanks for bringing this one to our attention and providing us in-depth details of your concern, taborlake.

The Web Connect issues occur for several reasons. Its possible the files from the bank are incomplete or in the wrong format. When this happens, changes from your bank's end can cause issues.

I am getting the following error when trying to down load my BOA statements... Something’s not quite right The uploaded file isn't a valid Web Connect file.

I have been having the same problem with QBO automatically pulling transactions from BoA since early March. I used to also be able to upload a QBO file downloaded from BoA; that has also ceased to work.

I happened to have an old QBO file from September, 2019 and compared it to the more recent ones. The only difference is that now, for each transaction, BoA is inserting additional fields, like this:

<MERCHCAT>

<EXPCAT>
 <CARDNUM>
 <CARDNAME>
 <MCC>

I manually removed those fields manually from the QBO file using Notepad, saved it, uploaded it, and VOILA ...joy

Now to figure out how to get BoA to stop including those fields at the source.

In the meantime I'm using the 'findstr' command from a command prompt window and it removes all the offending lines from a QBO file in one fell swoop; Then just upload the modified file, "stmt1.qbo" instead - yeeha :)

findstr /v /i /c:"<MERCHCAT>" /c:"<EXPCAT>" /c:"<CARDNUM>" /c:"<CARDNAME>" /c:"<MCC>" stmt.qbo >stmt1.qbo

Plug that line into a batch file, keep it in the same folder as the bad QBO file, and just double click the batch file to avoid the futile QBO and BoA support $hit $how

I am getting the following error when trying to down load my BOA statements... Something’s not quite right The uploaded file isn't a valid Web Connect file.

I have been having this problem since the end of February, 3 1/2 MONTHS and QB has still not fixed it. I am not sure they will ever fix it. If they don't, I will have to find different accounting software to use where they care about their paying customers.

A few weeks ago I did yet another several hour call with QB to screen share and try to solve the problem with the Bank of America business credit cards. In the end, the only way for it to work is to do a ton of extra work and download it in excel, change stuff, and then upload. It is a major pain in the neck and takes up a lot of time considering I have to do the whole process for each cardholder for multiple businesses.

This is for Bank of America business credit cards but I am also having different problems with American Express as well.

Quickbooks, please answer honestly and tell us if this will ever be fixed? Will we ever be able to go back to uploading the .qbo file from Bank of America and have it work.

These extra fields look like credit card info related to each transaction so I’m sure these fields are only inserted into a credit card type of account, and not say a checking account QBO file.
