No export function in QBO Payroll

I no longer have function/ability to export my payroll data from QB payroll core online to my QB desktop accounting.  After signing up and trying to use QB online, the function went away.  Have been on phone and email with tech support for over a month.  No rsolution.

No export function in QBO Payroll

Thank you for posting your concern here in the Community, @frustratedisanunderstatement.

Let's get your payroll data exported from QuickBooks Online (QBO) payroll core to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Since you're using Standalone Payroll Products, like Core, let's first set up your payroll preferences in your QBO account. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then select Payroll Settings.
  2. Select the pencil icon beside Export.
  3. Choose QuickBooks Online and select Continue
  4. Select the company you want to export into and choose the accounts for each wage expense or liability.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the setup.

Once done, you can now export your payroll data to your QBDT account. Let me guide you how.

  1. Go back to the Payroll settings page.
  2. In the Export section, choose Export transactions.
  3. Click Export to process.

I'm adding this article for more guidance: Export into QuickBooks Online or Desktop from Core, Premium, or Elite Standalone Payroll.

Once you're all set, you'll want to read this article: Get started with Payroll. This will guide you in setting up your new payroll in QBDT.

Should you need any assistance managing your payroll data in QBDT, I'm available here to help any time!

No export function in QBO Payroll

I don't want to export to a QB online, I want to export to my QB desktop like I was able to do when they automatically switched me from Intuit Online payroll to QB Online Payroll Core.

Thanks for getting back to this thread, @frustratedisanunderstatement

Let me clarify a few things for you and help export your payroll data from QuickBooks Online payroll core to your Desktop accounting.

In setting up your payroll preferences, ensure to select the Desktop for Windows. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon in the top right corner.
  2. Click Payroll settings and choose the Pencil icon next to Export.
  3. Select QuickBooks Desktop for Windows: downloadable IIF (Intuit Interchange Format) file and select Continue.
  4. Enter the name of each account you are exporting your liabilities and expenses to. Make sure you have a copy of your QuickBooks chart of accounts handy for this.

Then, proceed in exporting your payroll transactions. For detailed steps, you may follow the steps provided by Mark_R or review this resource for your reference: Export into QuickBooks Online or Desktop from Core, Premium, or Elite Standalone Payroll.

I’m also adding this article in case you need to access payroll statements in the future. This includes the description of each report and the information you can get: Run payroll reports.

Feel free to tag my name if you need help with the process or if you have other payroll concerns. I am happy to answer them and help you. Keep safe always.

any fix to this?  I have the same problem and the quickbooks account team is worthless.  They told me I need to export an excel file then pay to download some 3rd party software to convert to IIF file, which includes 10-15 other steps to map all the payroll transactions.  Not reasonable.  What was resolved with this, if at all?

We are struggling with similar issues. This conversion changed the level of service we as an accountant can provide our clients and spent hours trying to resolve over the phone with customer care. Very concerned with the continued lost time dealing with customer care different levels of knowledge and lost productivity in the officer explaining ourselves.

it's now June 2022 and seems like the Elite is not very Elite because the Export  is still not part of the short cut and under setting when you click export says nothing to export even though a payroll was just run. Was on the phone with a knowledgeable person yesterday and she could not figure out why and "escalated  " the issue.

Trying to get from QBO payroll to desktop just need an iff file

If you are an accountant with multiple clients and were converted from Intuit Online Payroll to QuickBooks Online Payroll, then you will notice the Export shortcut under payroll overview is missing. It will appear on your clients Core version, but not your Elite version. Simply type in https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/payroll/export-center and the export center magically appears. You can simply create a bookmark, so you don't have to remember the link.

Hope this helps.

I understand how time-consuming it is when something isn’t working the way you need it. Please know that encountering exporting data issues isn't the kind of service I want you to experience, DTOWN1.

If you are using our Standalone Payroll Product, you can export your payroll transactions into either QuickBooks Online directly, or into QuickBooks Desktop using the Intuit Interchange Format (IIF) file. Let's make sure we set up the Export Preferences. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon in the top right corner
  2. Choose Payroll settings
  3. Tap the Pencil icon next to Export
  4. Choose either QuickBooks Desktop for Windows: downloadable IIF (Intuit Interchange Format) file or QuickBooks Online (this option sends data directly to your QuickBooks account) and press Continue.
  5. If selecting QuickBooks Online, you may be prompted to log in to select the company. You will then be asked to select the company you want to export to.
  6. You will then be prompted to select the accounts for each wage expense or liability
  7. If selecting QuickBooks Desktop for Windows, you will be asked to type in the name of each account you are exporting your liabilities and expenses. We recommend that you have a copy of your QuickBooks chart of accounts handy for this.

Then, proceed in exporting your payroll transactions. Here's an article you can refer to for more details about exporting into QuickBooks Online or Desktop from Core, Premium, or Elite Standalone Payroll.

If the same thing happens, I'd recommend reaching out to our representatives. One of them will pull up your account in a secure environment and investigate this issue further. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Help icon.
  2. Select the Search tab and click Contact Us.
  3. Enter a brief description of your concern.
  4. Select either Start a chat or Get a callback.

Thank you for this comment.  I am seeing the same issue in Online Payroll Premium.  The option to choose where to export is not there.  I clicked the link above and it let me choose Desktop for Windows, and once I got out of it, it forgot and I still cannot export payroll transactions.  As an accounting professional, this is very frustrating since it was an option before the conversion so it CAN be done!

Thanks for joining the thread, @TPalmer2. I understand the urgency of this matter. I'm here to share some details on how we can fix the issue.

We can perform some basic browser troubleshooting that will help your browser work better and faster. Cookies and caches might block you from exporting your payroll data. I'll show you how.

  1. Restart your browser.
  2. Log in to your account then, go again with the steps on how to set up your preferences and export your payroll transactions in an incognito or private browser. You can use these keyboard shortcuts to launch a new private window:

Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N

Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P

Safari: press Command + Shift + N

If it works on the private browser, you can go back to the regular browser and clear your browser's cache. From there, you can perform again the following process in setting up preferences and export payroll transactions.

Additionally, if you’re using Core, Premium, or Elite payroll, please ensure the accounting isn't turned on when you follow the steps in exporting your payroll data.

I've added this article for more details on exporting your payroll transactions: Export your payroll data into QuickBooks.

Once, done performing the basic troubleshooting steps and the issue persists, I'd suggest reaching out to our Technical Support Team. They have the tools to securely check into your account and guide you further through the resolution process. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Go to Help.
  3. Choose Contact Us.
  4. Type in your concern, then click Let's talk.
  5. Select a way to connect with us:

Start a chat with a support expert.

Get a callback from the next available expert.

You can refer to this article for the schedule: Contact Payroll Support in QuickBooks Online.

As stated above by others, this does not work either. Is there a fix being worked on? Entering checks manually is not acceptable when paying for a service that is supposed to export payroll.
