QB Desktop 2018 - Even the File Doctor doesn't work

We are having serious stability issues and I wonder if I'm the only one. We have a 3 license version with the files on a separate windows machine that acts as our server.

 

Under QuickBooks 2018, the Desktop version, more than once the company file gives me an error message when opening. And not the same error message, but different onces, every time we try. (See a previous post on stability issues with QB)

 

However, one of the suggestions is to use the File Doctor. Whether we do this on the desktop, or on the server (after installing QB on the server also) the 'repair' always fails. See attached. No way I'm going to restore from an old back-up as there is too much work involved.

 

Good thing so far is that after this attempt to repair the file, and me backing out of it, it will open. Hope it stays this way.

This is undoubtly the most unstable version of QB I've seen in a long time.

I'm glad you're able to get QuickBooks Desktop 2018 working after repairing the files. It's also a good thing you attached a screenshot of the error related to the File Doctor.

 

To ensure the File Doctor works, you need to turn off the hosting mode and configure McAfee Anti-virus to allow connection with QuickBooks. You can refer to this article: How to configure McAfee Personal Firewall to allow inbound connections on specific ports

 

You can consult an IT professional or contact McAfee if you need further assistance while configuring the firewall.

If QuickBooks 2018 is still not stable, I'd recommend getting in contact with our Technical Support Team to look further into this. They can help run error reports and analyze them.

1.    Go to this link: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact
2.    Select QuickBooks Desktop.
3.    Select the version.
4.    Select a topic.
5.    Click the Get Phone Number button.

I just started having similar problem.  Windows 10, QB 2018 Pro, single user.  Every time I close quickbooks, it fails to open the next time - so I have to run the repair utility that Intuit posted here  item # 4 is the only one that works for me

QB desktop file doctor has been stuck at "doing minor surgery" for a few days now.  Should it take that long?

The QuickBooks File Doctor helps if you're having trouble opening your company file. The processing time depends on the size of your company. Since the tool is already stuck for a few days now, I suggest closing it.

 

Once done, proceed with the steps on the QuickBooks Desktop doesn't start or won't open article. These are other tools we recommend to get you back up and running as quickly as possible.
