Quickbooks Premier 2020 Desktop Installation Problems

Hoping to save someone time if they are unable to install their software.  I recently upgraded from Premier 2017 Desktop to Premier 2020 Desktop, but when I tried to install it nothing would happen.  After redownloading the software and trying it again with same result, I figured I would save time and just have Intuit tech support help me.  Big mistake!  After four hours on the phone with the tech who just kept trying the same thing over and over, she said she would have to have someone with more experience call me back the next day (Friday).  No one called.  On Saturday I figured I'd spend some time with Google.  I discovered that I just needed to install the program in Selective Mode, and in less than two hours from beginning to end I had the program installed and all my company files transferred.  It has now been three weeks since that fateful call to tech support and I have yet to hear from them.

I must have spoken with the same representative today. After hours on the phone, the installation problems were not resolved and no one called me back. Poor technical service! She kept telling me I needed an IT person. Apparently she did not work in the IT department.

I'm lending an ear to your sentiments and recognize your experiences with the support team, @Bmccoy53. I also understand the impact this has caused you and your work efficiency. But please know I'm here to provide the steps to get this installation issue resolved in no time. This way, we can ensure you'll get back to the business you loved the most.

 

As I read the first customer's concern above, installing QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) in Selective startup mode helps resolved their problem. If you've already done this, but the issue persists, let's first download the QuickBooks Tool Hub. It fixes the most common installation errors, so I recommend using the tool hub on Windows 10, 64-bit. I'll guide you how. 

  1. Close QBDT.
  2. Download the most recent version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub (1.4.0.0).
  3. Save the file on your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop. 
  4. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  6. Once completed, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub. 

 

Second, let's run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool under Installation Issues of the tool hub. It can take up to 20 minutes, then restart your computer once done. 

 

Third, let's update Windows to get the latest fixes and security improvements. Fourth, you can manually fix Windows components with the assistance of an IT professional. For the detailed instructions, see Steps 3 - 4 through this article: Fix QBDT Install Errors

 

After that, you'll be able to install the program and activate it successfully.
