Can Quickbooks Desktop 2021 for Mac be transferred from one computer to another?

I ordered a new laptop that should be arriving in a few weeks. I want to order Quickbooks 2021 Desktop for Mac now but not sure if I will be able to use it on the new computer when it arrives if I purchase the 1 user license? I'm self employed and don't have any need for more than 1 user and would not need use of Quickbooks on the computer I'll be getting rid of. Any feedback is appreciated...thank you!

Can Quickbooks Desktop 2021 for Mac be transferred from one computer to another?

Hi @GrahamUpdegrove,

Yes, this is possible for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac. I'll walk you through the process.

The first thing to do is to create a backup copy of your company file.

Here's how:

  1. From the File menu, select Back Up.
  2. Select the folder where you want to store your backup file (.dmg).
  3. Click Start Backup. The name of the backup will be your QuickBooks filename with the date and time the backup is completed. You have the option to view the file in Finder.

You can then follow the steps in this article: Install and set up QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. It's for your new laptop so you can install QBDT for Mac 2021.

To proceed, see this article: Restore your backup company file for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Feel free to post a reply if you need further assistance. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
