I use Premier Contractor's Edition 2019 (Desktop). This error started popping-up after the most recent update. I can hit OK and it will open the Employee Center, but I am not sure how to correct the error. I tried to locate a file that it may be pointing to, but do not have any file that resembles what I can tell from the error message (path is not fully displayed). Not sure why it is pointing to a non-existent file. Is this a problem with the update or something else? PS- I have gone back and made sure I have all the most recent updates. No unusual errors in my update screen.
Error message screen shot attached. Thank you for your help.
Thanks for the details, Mellane.
We currently have an ongoing investigation about the error message you're getting when running payroll in QuickBooks Desktop. While our product engineers are working for a complete fix, I recommend using admin access on your computer as a temporary workaround.
Also, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team to include you on the list of affected users. This way, you'll be able to receive updates via email about the issue.
Here's how you can reach them:
Keep me updated on how it goes and I'll be sure to get back to you.
Using admin access does not keep the problem from occurring.
Hi there, @bcars.
Our engineers are still investigating the root cause of this issue so they can implement a permanent fix. I recommend reaching out to our Customer Care Team since using admin access doesn't make a difference.
That way, once any updates of the Investigation number 38653 will be rolled out, you'll be notified. To reach them, please follow the steps presented by my peer above. I also outlined that in this screenshot:
Reach back out to me here if you have any other concerns. I'll be more than happy to help. Have a fantastic weekend!
Are there any updates on this error? I have a client experiencing this and we both tried to contact Intuit to get on the list of people to update...neither one of us is certain that the representative understood what we needed and added us to the list. Any update or advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
No updates.
Logging in with admin access does not resolve the issue (nor is it considered good practice to have users working in admin mode).
In our situation, closing the error message results in the 'Employee Center' window opening successfully (but it should not be this way).
Until the issue is resolved by QuickBooks engineers, we a just dealing with clicking through the error message.
Hi, Estokesberry.
Our engineers are continuously working to provide a solution as soon as we can. While we don't have a definite time as to when the resolution will come out, rest assured that our product team is already working on this matter at hand.
We will be updating you soon on this thread once the issue is resolved. As a workaround, you might want to login as the Admin user and try to access the employees' center.
For now, I'd encourage you to visit our QuickBooks Blog, so you'll be updated with our latest news and improvements. Just go to https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/.
Additionally, if you want to know some "How do I" steps in QuickBooks Online, you can always visit our Help Articles page for reference.
Please extend your patience while we're working for the permanent fix. Don't hesitate to drop me a line if you have other QuickBooks concerns and I'd be glad to help.

Do we have any updates?
This error is still being investigated by our engineers, Mellane.
In the meantime, this will not persists when you use a portable company file, or when you have an admin access. I've got the steps on how to create a portable file:
Rest assured that when an update is available, either my colleagues or I will go back to this thread.
I appreciate your patience while we're working on a resolution for this issue.
It appears that the QuickBooks 2019 UPDATE (not upgrade) that rolled out on December 19, 2019, has resolved the issue with the 'Cannot Find ... path' when opening the Employee Center.
~ Make a backup of your company file(s) since this update will have an impact on them, particularly in regard to a multi-user scenario. ~
Be advised that this UPDATE may require not only restarting QuickBooks, but a reboot of the computer, so plan accordingly.
Thanks for updating us, @bcars.
