I will be upgrading to QB Desktop 2022. I want to install it on 2 computers. These 2 computers will not be on a network. When updates come out, will they automatically update on both computers?
I also subscribe to Payroll. Will the payroll updates update on both computers?
Do you need to open the same company file on both computers?
Yes. But not at the same time.

Do all updates update on both computers?
You will still need to run QB Updates manually on each machine.

I am disabled and work on two different computers in my home. One is stand up height and the other is sitting. I've heretofore been able to install QB on both so that I can work on either one, depending upon how I'm feeling. QB 22 doesn't want to do that. I NEED the software on both computers. How do I , the ONE person who will be using both of my computers, achieve my goal?
Let's achieve your goal so you can work with your QuickBooks company file comfortably, @Pamela1999.
The best way to access your company file from other computers is to set up a multi-user network. This makes it so one computer (the server) hosts your files while the other computer can be accessed as workstations.
To get started, let's first uninstall your QuickBooks and reinstall it using the Custom and Network install type on the server computer. Let me guide you through the steps.
Once QuickBooks is installed on the server, choose if you'll be keeping your file on the computer's local hard drive (recommended) or if you want to store it on a mapped network drive.
Then, you can begin setting folder permissions and installing our Database Server Manager.
I'm also adding these articles to learn more about the hosting service:
Keep in touch if you need any more assistance with this, or there's something else I can do for you. I've got your back, @Pamela1999.
How many user license do you have? Single user and 2 users?
I have one user license as I am the only one using QB. I want to install on a second computer for my use.
You can install the same license on the second machine as long as you don't run QB on both machines at the same time.
Thank you. That answered my question.
Would you follow the same steps to install Quick Books on a laptop? I already have it installed on my PC.
Hello there, @Shortiey.
I’ll guide you through installing QuickBooks Desktop on your laptop.
You’re correct! You can install the desktop version on your laptop as you normally do when installing it on a computer. See this article, System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2022 to make sure that it meets the system requirements.

I am trying to move my QB Desktop Accountant 2020 from my laptop to my Desktop.
I made a backup of the files on my laptop to my PC, uninstalled the 2020 QBD from my laptop and installed it on the pc. When I click "Register - Begin Activation", I get a popup window "You will need to update your software to access your Intuit account here".
When I try to find what I am doing wrong, I get the message "Browser not supported - download the latest version".
So I tried reinstalling the 2020 QBD on the laptop. There also I get the same message. Can anyone please help me?
Let me help with the error that you're getting with QuickBooks, pam1308.
Since the discontinuation of Internet Explorer last June, QuickBooks has used a built-in browser. This was specifically designed and customized for all supported versions of the program.
After reinstalling QuickBooks, reset the maintenance release update to install the built-in browser. Here's how:
Once the update is complete, restart your computer and go back to QuickBooks. Then, try to activate or register the program to check if that would let you through. Just go back to the Help menu and select Activate QuickBooks Desktop.

Please reply to me and let me know if you're able to activate and open QuickBooks successfully. You can also post more questions in the Community if you need anything else.
Thank you, JenoP.
Your solution worked. I was able to update and sign in to my account.
Thank you once again.
Good to see you here, @pam1308.
I'm glad you could indeed update and login to your account. Thanks to my colleague @JenoP for providing the best resolution to the issue that you've encountered within your company.

I used Express default settings when installing Desktop pro.
When I tried to restore my backup file it wouldn't stick it said it was a problem with my network setting.
It's possible that your backup file is broken, or that some QuickBooks Desktop components are missing, ADVAV.
To identify the underlying reason of the issue, we can run a number of tests to restore your company file from your backup copy. Let's start by opening an example file.
If you can open a sample file without any issues, download and install the QuickBooks Tool hub and then run the Company File.
If a sample file isn't running, perform QuickBooks Desktop repair to ensure that there are no missing components that cause the software's unusual behavior. Here's how:
If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support. They can do screen sharing to further assist you with retrieving your company file.
Feel free to post a response in the comments section below if you encounter additional errors. ll be around to take care of it.
My goal is to set my QuickBooks on another computer because the old computer is starting to fail. I will not be using it on both computers. I have followed the instructions you gave and have restored it to the new computer (laptop). However, when I attempt to remove the flash drive my information is gone. Have I missed a step somewhere?
