I appreciate the steps you've taken to restore your company file, BEllison.

We can perform a wildcard search for all company files on your computer. We can type one of these following extensions in the search bar of the Start Menu. Please note to include the asterisk (*) before the file type.

  • *.qbw (Working Files)
  • *.qbb (Back Up Files)
  • *.qba (Accountants Copy Files)
  • *.qbx (Accountants Transfer Files)
  • *.qby (Accountants Change Files)

We can check company file is missing or cannot be found to learn more about the process.

I'd appreciate it if you'll give me an update on this. I want to make sure everything is taken care of with you.

I appreciate you getting back to me. I have tried saving the restored file on my external drive, downloads folder, company file folder, but its never there when I go back. I have been very careful about where I am saving it.

Right after I hit save as it goes back to the QB screen where you open a company.

Hello there, @BEllison.

Allow me to join the thread here in the Community. I can help sort it out and get you back to running your business.

Before we start, I need more information about the issue you're having on your end. Can you share with me the file format you're trying to restore in QuickBooks Desktop? Any additional details will help ensure a timely solution.

It's also possible that you have limited access which why is you're unable to see the file after saving it in different locations.

When performing the restore process, the company file should be in QBB or QBM format to be visible. Also, it's required to save it to your local hard drive because devices like USB will not be recognized by our system.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Choose Open or restore an existing company
  3. If you have the QBW format, choose Open a company file (select Restore a backup copy for QBB and Restore a portable file for QBM).

The file should be visible once you choose the correct option from the Open or Restore Company window. In case the problem persists, I suggesting contacting our QuickBooks Support Team.

Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Help tab at the top menu bar and select QuickBooks Destkop Help.
  3. Select the Contact Us option.

Additionally, here are some helpful references that you can check out about restoring QuickBooks Desktop files:

Please know that I'm just a post away if you have any other questions or concerns. Wishing you all the best.

Yes, thank you. I am trying to restore a *QBB file from my external hard drive

Then I try to save my file in my downloads file on my PC (picture attached)

Then once I hit save, it goes back to the previous screen I was on.

Also I tried contacting QB but it won't let me because of the corona virus so I posted here.

@BEllison

Try copy the file to your local machine and restore it. Once you are done, create a new backup file to copy to your external drive.
