My old business bank shut down, so I'm getting a connection error. I don't want to delete it and lose old transactions but there's no disconnect option. What can I do?

What you can do in this situation is hide the bank account in question since you don't want to lose old transactions, @clstudio-art-gma

Disconnecting a bank account from your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) company removes all transactions. Meanwhile, hiding a bank account lets you keep all transactions. To proceed with hiding this bank account, follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to your company in a web browser.
  2. Go to the Gear icon, then select Bank Accounts.
  3. Locate the account you want to hide.
  4. In the Show Account section, toggle it to OFF.

See this article for additional information about this process: Delete bank and transaction data in QuickBooks Self-Employed. It includes steps on how to delete a bank account using a browser, an iOS device, and an Android device.

Hi @Ryan_M , thanks for your reply.

The problem is that I'm not given a toggle for this account. It says the bank's website is down for site maintenance and to try again in a few hours, but this won't work because the bank has closed its doors. (The bank was Azlo). The only option seems to be the trash can in the upper right corner.

This isn't the kind of experience we want you to have while you inactivate your bank account in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), @clstudio-art-gma.

This banking error can sometimes be caused by the browser's overtime collection of data from frequent page visits. To isolate this matter, you can perform some troubleshooting steps.

You can start by pulling up your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account using a private browser (incognito). Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox)
  • Control Option (Safari)

Once signed in, go to the Bank accounts menu from the Gear/Profile icon and toggle off or hide your (Azlo) account. Please see the screenshot below for your reference.

If you're able to do so, return to your default browser and clear its cache (the linked article also works for Self-Employed). This will refresh the system and remove older data that causes viewing and performances issue. However, if this matter continues, I'd recommend using other supported browsers.

In case the issue persists, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They have all the necessary tools to investigate the cause of the issue and provide you with additional fixes. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Assistant menu.
  2. Type in Talk to a human in the Type something... (twice).
  3. Select the I still need a human option.
  4. Choose either Message an agent or Get a callbackContact Support QBSE US.PNG

To know more about hiding bank accounts in QBSE, you can refer to this article: Delete bank and transaction data in QuickBooks Self-Employed. It also includes details about deleting your bank accounts and transactions.

Also, each time you categorize a transaction, QBSE matches it to a line on your Schedule C. To know the most updated categories, you can refer to this article: Updates to expense categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Please keep me posted on how it goes in the comments below. If you have other banking concerns and questions about managing transactions in QBSE, I'll gladly help. Take care and stay safe, @clstudio-art-gma.
