Well, basically you need to install QuickBooks and transfer your company file(s).

Note that QuickBooks 2013 wasn't designed to work under any current version of Windows. There may be hurdles both in getting the installer to work and also - if you can get it to install - parts of QuickBooks may not work properly. Features that use the OS like printing come to mind.

Also, patches may no longer be available from Intuit, so you might end up using an older release than you currently are. Patches are available here: https://qtools.com/qbupdates.htm

Assuming it installs, a good way to transfer your files is using Backup and Restore. After backing up, find some way to transfer the backups to the new computer and then restore them.

Hi there, @jenni5166.

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the Community for support. I hope you're enjoying the day so far.

Our champ user, BigRedConsulting, is correct. You can run into some issues downloading an older version of QuickBooks.

Following along with their response, first, you'll want to get QuickBooks Installed on your new laptop. You can do that by using the disk that you've mentioned, or you're more than welcome to use the link I've included below.

Once you've got your QuickBooks installed, you'll need to move the company file. I've included some steps to do this below.

  1. Follow the steps to create a backup company file on your original computer.
  2. When you save the backup file, give it a unique name, so it's easy to identify (This also prevents accidental overwrites).
  3. Save the backup file somewhere you can easily find it, like your Windows desktop.
  4. Move the backup company file to your new computer. You can either put the backup on a flash drive or an external device. Or you can share it if your new computer is on the same network.
  5. Follow the steps to restore the backup on your new computer. Remember, it should have a unique file name.
  6. If you use payroll, download the latest tax table after moving your file.

However, if you don't want to create a backup of the company file, we can move it another way. Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks and the company file you want to move.
  2. Press F2 (or Ctrl+1) to open the Product Info window.
  3. Look in the File Information section. This will tell you where your company file is saved on your hard drive.
  4. Open the Windows Start menu and then open File Explorer.
  5. Find the folder that has your company file.
  6. Right-click the folder and select Copy.
  7. Open the external device you'll use to move the files or open the new location on your hard drive. Then Paste.

Please know that you can always contact our Technical Support Team if you need additional help during this process. This way, an agent can use their tools to screen share with you and move everything over for you. Also, if needed, and you wish to upgrade, our agents can help with that. Easy peasy!

Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'm always around to lend a hand. Have a good one and enjoy the new computer!
