QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2016, Release 17(R17): What's New - broken link

R17 is available at: https://downloads.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/products?productName=QuickBooks%20Desktop%20Pro&edition=&v...

The "What's New" link is broken, (page not found).

Does anybody know where the release notes for R17 can be found?

QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2016, Release 17(R17): What's New - broken link

Hi elcbruce,

Services offered in QuickBooks Desktop 2016 has already been discontinued. That's the reason why the link to see the release notes is no longer available.

On the other hand, you can still download the QuickBooks's 2016 maintenance release by going through these steps:

  1. From the QuickBooks Help menu, select Update QuickBooks.
  2. On the Update QuickBooks window, go to the Update Now tab.
  3. Select Get Updates.
  4. Restart QuickBooks. When prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

There are a lot of updates and new features added since we launched the QuickBooks Desktop 2019 version. This is why we encourage you to install the trial version and try it for free. When you wish to upgrade, please check out this article for the detailed steps: Upgrade to a new QuickBooks Desktop version

QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2016, Release 17(R17): What's New - broken link

I just want to make sure I understand correctly; your company issues a new release for unsupported Desktop Pro 2016, along with a broken link to release notes because it is longer supported. Do I have this right?

QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2016, Release 17(R17): What's New - broken link

R17 was the last maintenance release for QB 2016 before it was discontinued, elcbruce.

QB Desktop has a 3-year support life cycle. This means that updates and online and add-on services are no longer available once a version is discontinued. More details about the discontinuation policy are discussed here: QuickBooks Desktop Service Discontinuation Policy And Upgrade Information

Also, the article that's attached to the What's new link has already been archived, which is why you can no longer see it. Although, you can still use QuickBooks 2016 as long as no online services are connected to it.

Hello, Holloway Family.

As mention above, QuickBooks Desktop has a 3-year support life cycle. That said, you need to upgrade to the latest version or you can download and install the trial version to restore the data you have from the external hard drive.

Please visit the Download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop article for the detailed instructions on downloading the 30-day trial.

You may also back up your data to prevent losing all the files in your company. For more insights, check out the Create backup of the QuickBooks Desktop company file article.

I appreciate you for taking the time to visit us here today. I'll be here if you need further help with your company file in QuickBooks Desktop. Stay safe!

Need QB 2016 update after Mac Ventura install.  Appears that both Support and Chat are "digital assistant".  Not at all useful for timely solutions.

@H-OProp

QBD 2016 is outdated and they won't release any update to support any recent MacOS versions. You have to purchase a supported version (QBD 2020-2023) to upgrade your data file and run on Ventura, Utilize the trial version for QBD Mac before buying a new license to make sure it works on your machine.

QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2016, Release 17(R17): What's New - broken link

Thanks for getting involved with this thread, H-OProp.

Since QuickBooks 2016 was discontinued on May 31, 2019, there isn't a process in place for downloading updates.

If you upgrade to a newer version, you'll be able to download its updates.

Here's how you can upgrade without an active subscription:

  1. In the top menu bar, go to Help, then Upgrade QuickBooks.
  2. Choose a version you want to upgrade to.
  3. Click Upgrade Now.
  4. If you'd like to keep a copy of your current version of QuickBooks, hit Keep old version on my computer and press Let's go.

In the event our upgrade tool can't find your purchase, you'll need to enter the license information:

  1. Find your purchase confirmation email from Intuit.
  2. Enter the License Number and Product Number, then select Continue to finish upgrading.

If you can't locate your purchase confirmation email to extract its license details, you can find the info in your customer account maintenance portal (CAMPs).

I've also included a detailed resource about upgrading QuickBooks which may come in handy moving forward: Upgrade QuickBooks Pro, Premier, or Enterprise

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a great day!
