Since the threshold to file W2's/1099's is now 10 from the 250, is it free to Efile the 1099's like the W2's?

Welcome to the Community, LisaGarrison_NC.

If you have 10 or more 1099s and W-2s conbimed, you'll need to file them electronically. There's no additional fees for e-filing forms with a payroll subscription.

In the event you haven't you haven't yet, you'll need to enroll in the Internal Revenue Service's Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) to be able to e-file forms. Afterwards, you can refer to our E-file and e-pay federal forms/taxes article for detailed steps on how to e-file forms.

If you aren't subscribed to a payroll plan yet, you can do so any time by visiting our Pricing page.

I've also included a detailed resource about the new IRS regulations which may come in handy moving forward: Understand the IRS regulations for filing 1099s & W-2s

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a great Monday!

I don't understand your answer because 1099's don't have anything to do with payroll.   I have clients who have no payroll that still have to file 1099's.  How is Quickbooks going to accommodate your customers who have this issue?

Welcome to the thread, ljkentucky.

Allow me to join the thread and clarify things.

You're right that 1099 has nothing to do with payroll. When filing a 1099 electronically, please know that there will be a fee. To discuss further the Plans and Pricing when e-filing 1099, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They can also help you prepare W2 and 1099 forms.

To reach them, here's how:

  1. On your QuickBooks account, go to the Help menu at the top.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help
  3. Choose Contact Us
  4. Enter the issue or topic in the field box.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions.

You can also check out this link for more information on contacting them: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support. Ensure to review their support hours to know when agents are available.

For future reference, you can check out these articles to help you close out your current year and prepare for the new year in QuickBooks with your accountant:

I appreciate your input.  My point is that Quickbooks isn't cheap and I feel with what I already pay, I shouldn't have to go outside of Quickbooks to file a form that is required.  Also it doesn't appear that Quickbooks is even offering to format the 1099 information in the format that the IRS is requiring to e file through their portal.   So it seems that I either have to pay the exorbitant fee that Quickbooks third party is charging or I will have to hand enter all of my nearly 100  1099's

I agree this is completely wrong. I have been using QuickBooks since it was Dos and every year they squeeze bookkeepers even more. Enough is enough. I maybe it's time to look for new software after all after all these years
