Account line items are blacked out

Hi,

Please see screenshot. The 2nd line in every entry in every account list is blacked out. I can view it if I click on it but I would just rather it be visible. Any ideas why this is like this and how to fix? I'm using QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2020 and it is up-to-date.

Welcome and thank you for posting here in QuickBooks Community., ShallowJ.

I appreciate the screenshot. It helps me make sure that I provide you with the best solution.

To change the line item color in the register, here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Go to the Lists menu, select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate and double click the account you want to open.
  3. Click the Edit menu at the top.
  4. Select Change Account Color.
  5. Choose the color you want.
  6. Click OK.

From there, the color of each line item in the register will change to the color you selected.

In case you'd encounter display issues on your account, here's a resource that you can check: Fix screen issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

Thanks! That did the trick. How odd that the default color was black.

Account line items are blacked out

This is great information.  However, are we supposed to do this to EVERY account this happens to? I'll be honest I haven't paid attention to the account when it does happen, I've just closed QBDT and reopened and that did the trick. I have been having this issue for years, literally, and no one had an answer as to why this was happening. Intuit should have a real fix for all the accounts.

Thanks,

D.

I see that every company has a definite need, Whoadeb.

I understand how convenient it is to modify and add distinct colors to each of your accounts. However, the ability to change them in batch is unavailable in the program. You can manually change this display in every account this happens to as this will allow you to select different schemes for each account.

Thus, I'd recommend sending this relevant feature request to our product engineers. This way, they'll consider this idea and will work on its progress to include them in our future product updates.

Here's how to send feedback:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the top and select Send Feedback Online.
  2. Click on Product Suggestion and enter your feedback or suggestions.
  3. Once done, tap Send feedback.

To be updated with our latest news and updates, including product improvements, I'd suggest visiting the What's New section on your QBDT account or opening this link to view our product update blogs.

If you want to adjust your view preferences and change the display and Windows settings, refer to this guide that outlines the complete steps on how to perform each task: Fix screen issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you've already updated QBDT and the issue persists, I suggest using QBDT Tool Hub since it's designed to help resolve common program issues.

To get started, download and install the program. For the best experience, we recommend using Windows 10 (64-bit) and closing QBDT before using it. To do so, here's how:

  1. Close your QBDT.
  2. Download the latest version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub and save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
  3. Open the file you've downloaded.

  5. After installation, open the file by double-clicking the icon on your desktop or searching for it on Windows if you can't find it.
