Change to QuickBooks Online Login

My experience logging into QuickBooks Online seems to be changing and becoming more time consuming and I would REALLY like to change it back.

I'm an accountant user signing into QuickBooks sometimes multiple times a day. I used to sign in using my user ID and password. About a month ago, my login switched to requesting my user ID and then sending me an emailed code (i.e., I never enter my password anymore). The codes were coming very quickly at first, but now it's taking about 15-20 seconds for the code to arrive and sometimes it never arrives.

I then choose between my Intuit logins (I never had to do this when using a password).

Then, this week, instead of clicking the link of the QBOA account or client company to log into, I now have a list of buttons to choose from and click Continue (hopefully, I will get better at this process, but right now, the buttons have a very faint highlighting to tell me that I've selected one of them).

All of this is bumping my sign-in time for QBO up to about a minute per sign-in and it signs me out relatively quickly if I step away or take a call. A few weeks ago, I got really frustrated and I counted the number of code emails in my deleted message folder - I had 8 of them one day and 5 on another, throughout the course of the day.

I've asked my coworkers if they are experiencing these login changes and they say they are not. Am I on some kind of involuntary pilot program for how miserable sign-ins can be made? I just want my login experience to go back - if not to username and password - then at least to not the QBOA account buttons. These changes are making my QBO experience much worse.

Change to QuickBooks Online Login

I know this wasn't an easy process for you, Karen_21.

Let me help by making sure you can log in to your account using the old credentials in QuickBooks Online.

We can perform some basic troubleshooting steps to fix the issue. There are times that too much cache stored in your browser can cause unexpected behavior with the product.

Let's start by accessing your regular QBO account in a private window. This doesn't save any data files in your browser. You can access it by pressing the following keys:

•    Ctrl + Shift + P (Internet Explorer)
•    Command + Shift + N (Safari)
•    Ctrl+ Shift + N (Google Chrome)
•    Ctrl + Shift + P (Mozilla Firefox)

Once done, try logging in to your account. If it works, then let’s go back to your browser and clear the cache. These caches of data are essentially junk files and can be safely deleted to free up storage space.

For other troubleshooting solutions, see Can’t access the Sign In page article for more details.

I've also attached an article you can use to manage and make changes to user information in QuickBooks: Add and manage users in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have follow-up questions by commenting below. I'm always right here to help ensure you're able to log in using the old credentials in QuickBooks Online. Just tag my name, and I'll get back to you.

Change to QuickBooks Online Login

Thank you for your guidance. The only change to the login process that occurred when using the private window is that I don't seem to see the buttons for choosing between my QBOA/client companies to log in to.

I still had the:

- email code verification and no password

- choosing between logins

I went ahead and cleared my cookies and cache. My subsequent login was exactly the same as when using a private window but, when I logged out, the new login window on the logout page showed me a username and password field. I logged in and out a few times while all seemed normal, then cleared my cookies and cache again. On trying to login, I was promptly back to the login screen requiring me to enter username and receive emailed code. After some experimenting, it seems like when the first bit of the QBO URL is:

https://c1.qbo.intuit.com/qbo1

I only get the username field, but if it's this:

https://c9.qbo.intuit.com/qbo9

I get the username and password field.

My usual login bookmark is a generic bookmark directing me here: https://qbo.intuit.com/app/usermgt

I only use QBO and no other Intuit cloud products, so this has previously been a very efficient entry point to QBO. Is there somewhere else I should be starting from?

Change to QuickBooks Online Login

Hello, Karen_21.

Thank you for getting back to us. Clearing the cookies and cache helps delete those temporarily stored files and browsing history. Have you tried also use other supported, up-to-date browsers to roll out the possibility of a browser-related issue.

Also, In order to keep your account safe and secure, QuickBooks requires entering a password every time you access the company file. This is very important because it adds extra security in protecting critical data.

However, If the issue persists, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. A specialist can securely look up your account and further investigate the root cause of this issue.

I've also attached a article on how to recover your credentials by accessing through an QuickBooks account: Why can't I get to the QuickBooks Online sign in page?

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a wonderful day. Stay safe!

Thank you for the answer. I've used both Chrome and Edge, both in current versions, with no difference in experience.

Honestly, @AileneA I would LOVE to consistently log in with a password. I really miss that experience - especially since I use a password manager and the login can be instantaneous. I have attached a picture of my login screen, taken from Chrome this morning. This screen will then take me to a screen on which I enter a six digit code that is emailed to me (which has my email listed on it, or I would have posted that snapshot as well). Sorry to disagree with your understanding of Intuit procedure, but I very seldom ever have the opportunity to enter a password. After briefly seeing the normal login screen with username and password on two days ago after following @LeizylM 's advice, the login screen promptly reverted back to the attached image and I didn't see a password field at all yesterday.

I have combed through my Intuit account looking for settings that I might have inadvertently changed, asked my coworkers, looked through the Community, searched Google repeatedly, and finally posted in hopes that someone has the same experience (maybe other people like this login process!) or knows where this is coming from.

Hello there, Karen_21.

I do appreciate your time trying to log in using a different browser to isolate his of issue. Have you truing logged in through a private browser and the browser's cache. Here are the keyboard shortcuts when opening a private browser.

You can also go to accounts.intuit.com and log in using the existing QuickBooks login. Then, click Edit beside the User ID and Email Address.  If the issue persists, I suggest contacting our Phone Support Team.
