Did the import process change between qb 2021 and qb 2024?

We currently import data into QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2021 using iif files. We will be upgrading to QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024. Will the existing import routine continue to work or will I need to tweak the iif file format? I'm sure our imports are pretty basic.

Did the import process change between qb 2021 and qb 2024?

Hi there, linewalk. I'm here to assist you with your query.

The process for importing IIF files remains unchanged, so there's no need to make any modifications. You will only need to update your company file from QuickBooks Desktop 2021 to 2024, as mentioned by FateCandylaneT, and this needs to be done only once. You can refer to this article for detailed instructions: Update your company files to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

If you need to transfer your company data to a different folder on your computer, you can find a helpful guide in this article: Move your company files to another computer.

Did the import process change between qb 2021 and qb 2024?

Updating your company file to a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is an easy process, linewalk. Let me assist you in managing your data and upgrading the QBDT Pro Plus 2021 to 2024 version.

To answer your question, you'll only need to update your company file from QBDT 2021 to 2024. Importing and exporting data using IIF files is unnecessary when upgrading your desktop version. However, it's crucial to understand that this process is irreversible once your company data is updated to the latest QuickBooks edition.

In addition to this, you can upgrade your QBDT Pro Plus 2021 to 2024 instantly without installing other versions. Beforehand, please ensure that you have already purchased QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024 and have your license number ready, as these are required for the upgrade process.

Once ready, refer to these steps when upgrading your version:

  1. Start with downloading the QuickBooks Desktop Manager.
  2. Next, click Download.
  3. Select the QuickBooks License Agreement and click Let's get started.
  4. From there, enter the license number to look for your QBDT 2024 and select Search.
  5. Then, pick the email address you use to receive OTP. Once received, enter it in the dedicated field.
  6. After that look for your QBDT 2024 and select Install.
  7. When done, select Open QuickBooks and activate it.

I'm also sharing this reference for more detailed information: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise.

Once everything looks good, you can refer to Step 2: Update your company file outlined in this article: Update your company files to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

I'd gladly help you further if you require additional assistance managing your company file. Feel free to leave them in the comments below. Stay safe and have a good one!

Thanks for that input. What I was asking about was whether the iif file import process was the unchanged, or if I should expect to need to adjust anything?
