Discontinuation of services for Quickbooks Pro 2020

Yes, you can no longer import information once your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) version is discontinued, @jw70. I'll share more details about this below.

Your access to payroll services through discontinued QBDT software (for example, 2020) will be halted. Hence, importing files like IIF (for payroll transactions) will no longer be supported as well. With this, if you wish to continue using the service, you can opt to upgrade your QuickBooks to the supported version.

Please see this article to learn all the information you need to know about QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation: QuickBooks Desktop 2020 service discontinuation policy.

Also, you may want to visit one of our Help pages as your reference to guide you in managing your business growth and transactions using QBDT: QuickBooks Learn and Support. It includes help articles, Community discussions with other users, and video tutorials, to name a few.

Let me know in the comments if you have other importing concerns or questions about the service discontinuation policy in QBDT. I'm always ready to help. Take care, @jw70.

To clarify, will we still be able to upload/open .qbo files in Desktop Pro 2020 after the service discontinuation? The bank feeds feature rarely works for me anyway, so for most of my accounts I download a QuickBooks file directly from the bank websites rather than through QuickBook's interface. Will this still be an option?

Thanks for chiming in on this thread, hullofarmwife. I've come to ensure this gets sorted out for you.

With the discontinuation notice released by QuickBooks, we're unable to upload or open .qbo files once the program is discontinued. Starting June 1, 2023, all services, live support, and versions of the QuickBooks Desktop 2020 program will no longer be accessible. You can check out this article for more detailed information: QuickBooks Desktop 2020 service discontinuation policy.

For now, you'll want to consider upgrading your desktop program to the latest version to continue utilizing our add-on services. Also, you can look for third-party applications that would help you import your online banking statements or transactions.

Before doing so, I'd suggest securing a backup copy of your desktop company file so you can restore this data anytime.

Moreover, I'm adding this reference to guide you on how your books moved in if you want to migrate to the online version: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Let us know in the comments below if you have additional questions or other QuickBooks concerns. We'd gladly assist you further. Have a good one!

Does your bank offer other file formats? You can use a third party importer tool to work with QBD 2020 later.

I plan on keeping my Quickbooks Pro 2022 desktop without Payroll support.  Can I continue to import credit card transactions after 5/31/23?

To be clear, NO imports will be allowed after May 31st like credit card transactions?

Would I be able to import them as an OFX.data file through QBDT utilities?  And not a direct download?

I have details to share to answer your questions about downloading transactions, CynthiaC4.

Discontinuation is done every 3 years after a Desktop version is being released. This is to make sure that our products are compatible and stay up-to-date with software changes and updates. Older versions are also not tested and are not compatible with newer operating systems.

I'd like to clarify that only the 2020 version will be discontinued after May 31, 2023. Here's an article that talks about this for more details: QuickBooks Desktop 2020 Service Discontinuation Policy.

You mentioned that you're using QuickBooks Pro 2022. This means that you can still use all electronic and add-on services after May 31.

Online Banking would still work and transactions will be downloaded automatically as long as your account or license remains active. There's no need for you to import transactions via OFX or through a third-party app.

Allow me to share a couple more articles in case you need more guidance when downloading transactions from your bank:

As always, you can ask more questions if you still need more help when working in QuickBooks. We're always here to make sure they'll answered for you.

@CynthiaC4

You are using QBD 2022, correct? As long as your license is active, you can still use the bank feeds feature after May 2023. You can also use a 3rd party tool to convert *.ofx to *.qbo.

I received a reply today below.  So if I purchased my QBDT 2020 I have an active license, why wouldn't it be active.  Thanks

I have 2020…totally mistyped that.

I think I can use a 3rd party importer.

Has anyone used any of these?  I want to make sure it’s safe because it would be payroll importing.  We only have a couple of employees so I may just make manual entries.

Thanks for all of the feedback/responses.

No you won't be able to. Which you've probably already figured out.

One way around this is to use our OFX/QFX/QBO to IIF Converter , which will convert QBO files to IIF files for import into most any version of QuickBooks, even after service discontinuation.

My payroll program creates an IFF file and so far I have still been able to import.

RE: I have still been able to import.

Do you mean you have not been able to import?  If so that can be because of contents in the IIF file that conflict with the data in your company file. If you're getting an error, what does it say?

I am able to import.  Nothing has changed like I understood that it would.  Maybe it’s because I use Quickbooks payroll.  That is the only thing I import and it’s working fine still.

Importing IIF files does not end when QuickBooks sunsets. That's why you can still import IIF files.

You say that if I don't use any of the identified ending services that I can continue to use QuickBooks. I want to know how. I am blocked from opening QuickBooks Desktop 2020 by an Install Now notice. I emphatically do not want to upgrade to an online service and I do want to get access the my instance of QuickBooks again. How do I do that?

Discontinuation of services for Quickbooks Pro 2020

Hello, Filander1961.

Thank you for contacting the Community. I am here to provide you with more information regarding QuickBooks 2020. QuickBooks 2020 will be discontinued on May 31, 2023. After this date, Intuit, the company that owns QuickBooks, will no longer provide support, security updates, or bug fixes for this version. However, you can continue to use QuickBooks 2020 offline. This means that while you won't have access to online features like bank feeds and payroll, you can still access your existing data within the software.

That said, to continue using QuickBooks, you'll need to upgrade to the latest version. You can learn more about the QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy by reading this article: QuickBooks Desktop 2020 service discontinuation policy

Also, you've mentioned that you're having trouble opening your QuickBooks Desktop 2020. In such cases, the QuickBooks Tool Hub can help identify and resolve issues causing the program to malfunction. It's possible that your QuickBooks company file has been damaged or corrupted, which is preventing you from accessing your data. To get started, you can use the Quick Fix my Program tool from the Tool Hub to terminate any QuickBooks processes running in the background.

Here are the steps to download and install the Tool Hub:

  1. Close your QuickBooks.
  2. Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub file.
  3. Open the QuickBookstoolhub.exe file. It gets saved in the download folder.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Click Finish.
  6. Double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Once the Tool Hub opens, select Program Problems and choose the Quick Fix my Program option. This should help resolve any issues preventing QuickBooks Desktop 2020 from opening. After running the tool, try opening your QuickBooks company file again. If the issue persists, you can refer to this article that provides additional steps to follow in case QuickBooks stops working. QuickBooks Desktop won't open.

Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns about QuickBooks software. I'm here to extend another help. Have a great day!

I followed your instructions to reopen the fie using the QuickBooks Hub software. It gets me to the point where I am prompted (forced) to install a new version of QuickBooks which I believe is the cloud version.

I don't want the cloud version, I want access to QB Desktop 2020 without any additions. How do I get to that point. I appreciate your help.

I followed your correction steps and get to the point where I get a message "There's a new version" I am forced to "Install Now" to proceed. I think the new version is the cloud version which I don't want. How do I process this to get QB Desktop 2020 with all its functionality intact and no more install now instances?

I guess, at the end of the day, I want to know what happens if I click the Install now button for the newer version. Does that force me to online or some other path?
