Discontinuation of services for Quickbooks Pro 2020

Since my QBDT Pro 2020 will be discontinued in May, I need to know *EXACTLY* what the statement below means. I pulled it from the official Intuit page on the discontinuation:

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/feature-preferences/quickbooks-deskto...

Under the FAQ section, Other services:

"Online Banking: You won't be able to download transactions, send online payments, or send online transfers."

I need a clear, concise explanation of what "You won't be able to download transactions" means.

I currently use no extra services from Intuit like payroll or CC processing. The only things I use, where the above statement is a concern, are downloading a .QBO file from my bank and uploading to QBDT for my credit card, and DirectConnect to my bank accounts for banking transactions.

Will I still be able to use those functions after May 31, or will they be shut off?

I do not care about losing support (never used it), security updates, or extra services (have none).

I have no interest in paying a ridiculous annual fee for software I already own. With the well known history of Inuit support, I can already envision a "mistake" at Intuit that shuts off my account and locks me out of my files and information. No thanks, I'll pass on that.

Discontinuation of services for Quickbooks Pro 2020

I can share some information about the discontinuation of services of QuickBooks Desktop 2020, @cozog.

Yes, you're right. QuickBooks Desktop 2020 will be discontinued after May 31, 2023. If you don't use any of the add-on services in QuickBooks Desktop 2020, it'll continue to work for you.

About online banking, your connected bank accounts can no longer pull up your latest transactions. Send online payments and transfers if you use our Payments or Merchants services.

In case you're having an error while working with your bank accounts while your QuickBooks is not yet discontinued, check out this article: Fix OL and OLSU Bank Feeds errors in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if you need further information about the QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation. I'm always here to answer them for you. Have a great rest of the day!

@cozog

After May 2023, you won't be able to import *.qbo files any longer. You will need a 3rd party tool to import bank statements in csv/xls files.

It seems that there are no "one-time" cost solutions from Intuit any more.

I called the sales dept to get quotes on the subscriptions. The desktop minimum subscription is now $550/year for 1 user license. A 3 person license (which is what my current version has) is $950/year.

I think I paid $400 for it 3 years ago. That is a 7x increase in annual cost for the software.

It really is outrageous, but like everyone else, what option is there?

Sage is the only desktop competitor I could find.

But the thought of trying to change the accounting software I have been using for 15+ years makes me want to throw up.

If I had the time and patients to change software, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately, I will likely sign up for a subscription and call it "the cost of doing business", like most everyone else in this situation.

If you just need to continue using the bank feed feature, upgrading to the Plus edition is too much. You should consider the importer tool with one time license as I mentioned earlier.

I do use payroll and file forms for federal and CA. I do not want to upload my files or download software. I realize the price is up. I only need one user. What are my choices?

Thanks for joining in on this thread.

Let me chime in and share details about how you can continue using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Payroll so you can file federal forms and pay taxes.

After May 31, 2023, access to add-on services for QBDT for Windows 2020, including payroll services, will be discontinued. Once effective, QBDT 2020 will no longer automatically calculate correct payroll taxes, provide payroll forms, or allow you to send your payroll data. You will also lose access to your subscription, and no tax returns will be sent on your behalf.

For more details about the discontinuation, please refer to this link: QuickBooks Desktop Discontinuation FAQ for Payroll.

That said, I'd suggest upgrading your QBDT to a compatible version so you can continue filing federal forms. I understand that you don't prefer uploading files or downloading software. However, it's the best option we can do at this moment.

Furthermore, I'll share this article to learn about the features included in QBDT 2023 release and how you can utilize them to your company's benefit: What’s new in QuickBooks Desktop 2023.

You can always get back to us if you have any follow-up questions about the discontinuation. The Community is always around to assist you further.

If I upgrade, will it be for 2023 and I can get the payroll w/it? I don't mind downloading updates like we do now, but I don't want my files uploaded. Thanks.

Thanks for getting back to this thread, @customcovers4you.

Yes, you can still use your active payroll subscription once you upgrade your product

Since your payroll is a separate add-on service, you can reenter your payroll service key on your new QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). That way, you can continue using the payroll service.

Here's how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
  2. Go to the Employees menu and select Payroll.
  3. Click Enter Payroll Service Key (or Manage Payroll Service key if you have a different payroll subscription).
  4. Select Add and enter your service key.
  5. Click Next, and then Finish.
  6. When the Payroll Update message appears, select OK.
  7. Verify your payroll service status is Active, and then click OK.

For complete guidance, you can check out this article: Get started with QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.

Please let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions or concerns. I'm more than willing to help. Have an amazing rest of the day!

I'm here to elaborate on some details when upgrading QuickBooks. This will guide you on what you're supposed to do.

When upgrading QuickBooks to the 2023 version, elevates the current version of the software to a more advanced one. So, it's a straightaway explanation of the purchase of a new segment of the software and yes you'll be paying an amount depending on the version. However, you'll be able to benefit from the entire collection of the latest features and functionalities that have been integrated.

One example is if you're currently using QuickBooks Pro, and QuickBooks Pro 2023 is launched, you'll have to upgrade to the latest version by paying the full retail price.

On the other hand, updates are needed when certain bugs or glitches are spotted. These updates let you work smoothly and comfortably so that you don't have to encounter bugs or glitches frequently.

As long as you have an active payroll and are using a supported QuickBooks version, assistance from our Payroll Support Team continues.

Learn from this article how you can upgrade Quickbooks: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, Or Enterprise.

Moreover, you may want to know about the QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and how it affects your service. Read this article for more information: QuickBooks Desktop Service Discontinuation Policy.

Please get back to us if you have any other questions about the upgrade. We're always right here to help you.

Why wont my 'upgrade' link work under my help menu?

Discontinuation of services for Quickbooks Pro 2020

I can see the importance of having the Help menu work, @custom. I'll share other ways to upgrade your subscription as we get this fixed.

Keeping your QuickBooks updated will help restore the Help menu's functionality. With this, let's manually download and install specific updates. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page.
  2. From the Select Country drop-down, select your country.
  3. From the Select Product drop-down, choose your product.
  4. From the Select Version drop-down, click your version (year).
  5. Select Search.
  6. Press Get updates, then save the file.

After that, open the file to install the update, then restart your computer. Let's reopen your QuickBooks company file and check the Help menu. If it's now working, you can proceed to upgrade to a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop from there.

If your Help pane is still unresponsive, we can follow these steps to get a prompt to upgrade:

  1. Go to Edit, and then select Preferences.
  2. Select General, and then click My Preferences.
  3. Press Bring back all one time messages, then OK.
  4. Close, then reopen QuickBooks to receive the prompt to upgrade your QuickBooks subscription.

You'll want to check out this article to learn about the other ways of upgrading your QuickBooks subscription: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, or Enterprise. This contains all the instructions according to different scenarios.

See this article to learn about the service discontinuation along with the products affected: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

You can also check out this reference in case you have other icon issues: Learn what to do if you see the font, sizing, or other display issues. It has the recommendation to fix the settings on the system.

You can post anytime if you need more guidance. I'm always right here whenever you need additional information about the Help menu or your QuickBooks subscription.

Thanks for explanation MJoy_D.

Can you please confirm that we will be able to access our company file on QBD Pro 2020 after May 2023 and be able to import bank and credit card transactions through .cvs file?

What about QB Web Connector? will it continue to work (in our case with ConnectBooster)?

Thanks for joining the thread, @Oksygen.

I’ll share more details about the product discontinuation on May 31, 2023, for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2020.

You’re correct that access from your company file after the date mentioned above will remain available. However, this excludes you from accessing any online or add-on services such as:

  • Payroll Services
  • Credit Card Processing
  • Other services like Accountant Copy Transfer Service, Contributed Reports, Multi-currency/Exchange Rate, Online Banking, and QuickBooks Time

Moreover, uploading transactions will also be discontinued after the date. This means, uploading your bank transaction through a CSV file won’t be available. However, you may want to consider Fiat Lux – ASIA’s suggestion about utilizing a third-party application to do the following.

For more information about what services were affected after the discontinuation, please see this article and refer to What are the affected 2020 services? Dropdown: QuickBooks Desktop 2020 service discontinuation policy.

Concerning the use of QuickBooks Web Connector for your company file. Yes, you can continue using this with the application.

Feel free to post here again if there are other details you want to confirm with us. The Community is 24/7 available to help you. Have a good one!

Hello ndutton, I'm joining this thread to provide further information.

will I still be able to import that?

Discontinuation of services for Quickbooks Pro 2020

Thank you for posting here in the Community, @jw70.I'll share information about importing an IFF file in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

After the discontinuation of service, you won't be able to import the .iff files any longer. You can keep accessing it to track your inventory, sales, and expenses. Still, we encourage upgrading your QuickBooks to the supported version. You'll need to import the file before the discontinuation of your service date.

However, if your IIF file came from a third-party app, I'd recommend contacting the app’s technical support for help. Please know that Intuit doesn't offer technical support for the import and export of IIF files coming from a third-party app.

See this article to learn about the service discontinuation along with the products affected: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

So I’m using a payroll service by Quickbooks Intuit for which I pay a monthly fee but you are telling me that Quickbooks will no longer allow me to import the information? That’s absurd! I’m paying a monthly fee!
