Editing Transaction from 2019 I get "Preparing Transaction" and "Locking Transaction"

We are using QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 20 and this only happens specifically for 2019 transactions. When going back to edit a receipt, QB pulls up a window that states "Preparing transaction for editing". Once done and go to save and close, we get "Locking transaction". Is there a way to make this stop?

I’ll make sure to stop this prompt for you, @Mjl1030.

There might be performance issues that temporarily block you from modifying the transaction successfully. We can perform some steps here to sort and get you going.

The QuickBooks Tool Hub brings together various tools to help you fix common problems. Here’s what to do in this situation:

  1. Follow the steps to download and install the tool hub on your server.
  2. Open the tool hub.
  3. Select the Program Problems tab.
  4. Run each of the tools on the Program Problems tab. After you run each tool, try doing the task again in QuickBooks.

If you still get the prompts, I recommend contacting our Technical Support team for further investigation. They’re able to check your account in a secured environment and can provide you additional fixes.

Editing Transaction from 2019 I get "Preparing Transaction" and "Locking Transaction"

So a little update on this. While I copied the backup file and moved it over to a new computer to test updating to QB 21, these issues seemed to have stopped. I can open these receipts without issue on the new computer still on Quickbooks 20. What could be wrong with the current server?

Editing Transaction from 2019 I get "Preparing Transaction" and "Locking Transaction"

Hi there, @Mjl1030.

Thank you for following up with us here on the Community page and sharing the steps you've performed to isolate the issue. I'm stepping in for a moment and give you additional insights about the Locking Transaction pop-up.

Yes, this window appears when there are performance issues that are blocking you from updating the transaction. Or when the system takes time to load and accept the changes. To fix the issue, you can either repair QuickBooks or update it to the latest release. These keep your software up-to-date and get the latest features and fixes.

Here's how to do a manual update:

  1. Close your company files and QuickBooks, then open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Search for QuickBooks Desktop. Right-click the icon and select Run as administrator.
  3. While on the No Company Open screen, go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. Go to the Options tab. Select Mark All and then select Save.
  5. On the Update Now tab, select the Reset Update checkbox.
  6. When you're ready, select Get Updates.

If the error continues, here's how to repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.
