Empty Column on Right Side of Estimate Screen

Any idea how to get rid of this space?  We're running QB Enterprise Solutions 21.0 on Windows Server 2012 R2.

Empty Column on Right Side of Estimate Screen

Hi, @PoolHero1. I know some troubleshooting steps to help you get rid of this space when generating estimates and get you back in business.

The blank space on the right corner of the Estimate screen is for the Customer and Transaction tab. You can click the expand button to view or hide the tabs. See the screenshot below for reference.

In your situation, it appears that the tabs were hidden, yet the space they occupy remains. Certain tasks in QuickBooks Desktop cause the application or system to act weirdly. These are brought on by issues with your computer or how QuickBooks interacts with your system. To ensure you have all the latest components, be sure to update the application to the most recent release.

If you're on the updated version and the issue remains, let's repair the program by downloading the QuickBooks Tool Hub. It resolves common issues such as system failure.

Here's how to download and install it:

  1. Close QBDT.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.6.0.3) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub and save the file somewhere you can locate it easily.
  3. Open the file (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen procedures to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Once done, double-click on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

The hub acts as a starting point for the tools you'll use to address issues, and each tab aids with various kinds of problems. To learn more about the process, see this link: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.

Furthermore, I'm adding an article that contains several troubleshooting solutions in case you're unable to access your company file: Can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Hello there, @PoolHero1

The right part of your estimates is a collapsable tab that shows the Customer's info and transactions related to him. It's a helpful feature that helps you with your transactions.

Since the past problem appeared again, let's fix this by following the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Open the QuickBooks Toolhub.
  3. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, select Program Problems
  4. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  5. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

Open your QuickBooks and see if the space on the estimate returns to being a normal tab. If the problem continues, you can refer to this link and proceed to Solution 2.

Here's an article on solving common errors in the program: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

This is still happening and does not appear to be version or installation related. You can easily replicate by collapsing the right-hand sidebar on any page that allows you to change a template and then changing the template. Confirmed happening on Quickbooks Premier Plus 2023 Release R14P, but have had multiple customers report the same issue on different versions.

Empty Column on Right Side of Estimate Screen

Your participation in this thread is much appreciated, CJ86. As per checking, we don't have an open investigation regarding the estimate's side panel not disappearing when hidden. No worries, I'm here to help you handle this matter.

The empty column visible when generating an Estimate works as designed. Once you select a Customer:Job in the designated field, the customer's complete details and existing transactions, along with their balances, appear on this part of the page.

As you've mentioned, we can minimize this section by clicking the Hide history > button.

If the customer history portion of the estimate doesn't shrink when clicking the Hide button, let's reproduce the steps in installing and running the Quick Fix tool from the Tool Hub to narrow down the result. Here's how:

  1. Close your QuickBooks company file.
  2. Click this link to download the latest version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub (1.6.0.5). Store the file in your most accessible folder for easy access.
  3. Open the downloaded file, QuickBooksToolHub.exe, follow the on-screen installation procedure and agree to the provided terms and conditions.
  4. Once the installation is complete, select the QuickBooks Tool Hub icon to open the software.
  5. From there, choose Program Problems, then Quick Fix my Program.
  6. Launch the QuickBooks Desktop company file.

Nevertheless, please follow Solution 2 of this link if you encounter the same problem: Repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.

I'm also attaching these resources to help you once you need to organize your display and resolve problems with your preferences in QuickBooks:

I appreciate your patience as we work with you to get this matter resolved, @PoolHero1.

I checked out all the screenshots you have provided and they are a big help. I understand what you're saying. There's a big blank section of the screen next to the customer summary screen. This is unusual behavior.

I've taken some time to dig through old reports that are very similar to this issue. We have had great success repairing or completely uninstalling and reinstalling the program. With that said, let's try a manual repair instead of using the QuickBooks Tool Hub repair.

Here's how:

  1. Back up your company file.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Go to the Windows Start menu, and then pick the Control Panel.
  4. Tap Programs and Features and then Uninstall a Program.
  5. Choose QuickBooks and then Uninstall/Change.
  6. Press Continue or Next.
  7. Hit Repair and then NextNote: The repair should start right away, but it may take a while to finish. You can leave it running and come back once it's done.
  8. Click Finish when done.
  9. Restart your computer to complete the repair.
  10. Ensure that your QuickBooks Desktop is updated to the latest release.

If the issue continues after the manual repair, let's go ahead and uninstall the program. Here's how:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu. Search for “Control Panel”, then open Control Panel.
  2. Select Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  3. From the list of programs, choose the version of QuickBooks Desktop you want to remove.
  4. Click on Uninstall/Change, Remove, and then Next.
    • If you don’t see this option, sign out and sign back into Windows as an admin (or a user with admin rights).

Use this link to reinstall QuickBooks: Install QuickBooks Desktop.

If you have any issues completing the steps or don't feel comfortable doing them, please know you can always contact our QuickBooks Desktop Technical Support Team. One of our agents can use their screen share tools to securely perform the steps for you.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this process. I'm happy to help out. Have a good one!
