Getting "Unrecoverable Error" in QuickBooks Desktop

We are currently faced with a QuickBooks error that is causing a user to restart the program. The code on the unrecoverable error message is 1407043851 47688. From the QBwin.log file, the last entry is: senderrorapis.cpp (405) : MESSAGE: 24128: Wed Mar 30 12:04:49 LVL_ERROR--QuickBooks has experienced a problem and must be shut down, ErrorCode:1256530728.

Any idea what this means and how we can resolve this? The generic troubleshooting pages were less than helpful in pinning down the specific issue to address.

Getting "Unrecoverable Error" in QuickBooks Desktop

Thanks for joining this thread, @Ann99. I'm here to help get past the error message when opening your QuickBooks file so you can do payroll.

To begin, ensure your QuickBooks Desktop is up to date. Then create a backup of your company file before we can start the troubleshooting steps below.

Now, suppress the Desktop while starting QuickBooks.

  1. Press and hold the Ctrl key.
  2. Double-click your QuickBooks program icon.
  3. Hold the Ctrl key until the No Company Open window shows.

Then, suppress the Desktop while opening a Company File.

  1. Choose the desired company file from the No Company Open window.
  2. Press and hold the Alt key, then select Open.
  3. If you are prompted for your log in information, release the Alt key, then enter your user name and password.
  4. If you are not prompted for your user name and password, do not release the Alt key.
  5. Press and hold the Alt key, then select OK. Do not release the Alt key until your file is completely open.
  6. QuickBooks will display a blank screen. If you can highlight a QuickBooks menu by just hovering your pointer to it, your company file is completely open.

I also suggest to open a sample company file helps you identify if the problem lies with your company file or with QuickBooks itself. If the issue persists, you may check out step 4 to 6 in this article: Unrecoverable Error: General Troubleshooting Steps.

Once everything looks good, you can start doing your payroll in QuickBooks Desktop. For more details to perform this task, you may utilize this article: Create and run your payroll.
