Grid lines or alternating color rows on estimates

I would like the option to print grid lines or use alternating colors on line items when creating estimates and invoices.  Is there a way to do this.  I want it to print with the alternating colors, the same way it looks on the screen.example 1.png

Grid lines or alternating color rows on estimates

Thanks for reaching out to us, ChristyN.

I can help you with printing your invoice with alternating colors in QuickBooks Desktop. When creating any sales forms like Estimates, Invoice, and Sales Orders in QuickBooks, the system generates a shaded background on a line item. Please note that this feature may not be available in QuickBooks Pro or Premier.

To print invoice with alternating colors:

  1. From the Invoice page, select Print.
  2. Choose Invoice, and then click OK.
  3. In the Print One Invoice window, make sure to put a checkmark on Shade alternate table rows box.
  4. Click Print.

You should be able to have the printed invoice with the alternating colors after following the steps.

Let me know if you have any other concerns in QuickBooks. I'll be sure to help you out.

I am using Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2020.  I dont' seem to have that option.  Any other suggestions?  I have attached what my print screen looks like.  It would be a great feature for me if I can get it to work1.png

Hi there, ChristyN.

As of the moment, the Shade alternate table rows option is only available in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. You'll want to upgrade your plan to  QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise so that you'll be able to use this feature.

Thou, we can also save your estimate, then customize it outside QuickBooks using a third-party application. You can follow these steps in downloading your estimate:

  1. Log into QuickBooks.
  2. Select Customers from the sidebar menu.
  3. Choose Customer Center.
  4. Go to the Transactions tab, then locate the estimate.
  5. Click the Print drop-down button, then select Save As PDF.
  6. Select Save from the pop-up window.

Once done, you can visit our QuickBooks Desktop App Center to find a third-party application that handles sales forms customization. We'll just have to enter a keyword in the search bar or browse through the categories to filter the results.

I've added an article that will help you in customizing form templates forms like invoices, sales receipts, estimates, statements, and purchase orders to match your business needs.

I'm hoping that you'll find the best app. If you have any other concerns or questions about this topic, please don't hesitate to add a comment below. Have a pleasant day ahead.

Grid lines or alternating color rows on estimates

We have the same request as ChristyN here at our office.  We are using Desktop Pro 2020 and QB was printing alternating color rows for me up until a week ago.  I believe I must have unintentionally caused a setting to be changed as I was printing one day and now it will not print the alternating colors any longer.  Could it be that this feature is still available in Desktop Pro 2020 but that the toggle or check box has been moved?

Thanks,

BradM

i think that feature was removed via an update.... I've just started using QB Premier 2020.  It was printing alternating shaded lines on invoices.  An update was pushed through yesterday and now shading is gone, i don't see how to toggle it back on.    i'm not impressed.    we often have multi page invoices, it's ridiculously hard to read/follow the charges when it's all bunched up like this.   Get with it QB!

I am having the same issue. I used to have the shaded lines option and now it has been removed in the recent update.. Please fix ASAP. This is an extremely simple but useful feature that should be offered in Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2020. Clearly it is a useful function because the invoice preview, prior to printing has the lines shaded... Please fix Quickbooks.

I have the same issue. The shaded rows feature used to be available but was removed in the recent update. Please fix ASAP. This is a simple feature but very useful and should be included in Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2020. Clearly it is a useful feature as the invoice mark-up prior to print preview has the rows shaded... Disappointing update.

My invoices look like huge walls of text. I also need some way to distinguish one line entry form the next. I use QB Pro. I am adding this in the hopes QB will realize this is a strong need for business users and fix it in a future update!

My only workaround now is to add a blank line between entries which is problematic and time consuming for a range of reasons. Plus it makes the invoice longer, whereas even a gridline would enable me to distinguish one date/line entry from the next on my invoices.

You should probably start thinking about real features to lock-in behind a substantial increase in cost, rather than stuff that excel can do in less than 2 seconds and has always been able to do. Especially when this is already standard in estimates in non-enterprise quickbooks.

0-value added product development.

Nice to have you in the Community, @dgwelsh79.

I see having the option to print your estimate with alternating colors would benefit your business and other users. Rest assured our Product Developer is always looking for ways to enhance QuickBooks and meet the demands of our users.

For now, you might want to look for a third-party app that has the feature you need. You can go to the Apps Center menu and look for an app from there.

WOW-- seems like a pretty easy feature to put BACK. And check box is way better---READ EASIER-- than dealing with/figuring out how to use a third party app.

Come QB, that response is-- but I guess expectedly -- HACK!.

This feature absolutely needs to be reinstated! It's ridiculous that it was removed in the first pale.

This needs to come back QuickBooks.

I hope someone starts a class action lawsuit for you taking away such a basic feature that any free software can do. This is the height of predatory marketing. You should be ashamed of you company.

I completely agree with the above. I've spent so much time trying to figure out how to do this. It's not like QB Pro is FREE...for goodness sake we are already paying hefty fees to use this product and QB just will not help customers by customizing the program in the MOST useful ways. Very frustrating.

It is ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC that we can't print invoices with grid lines and/or shading.  It's time to start looking for an alternative to QB Desktop as obviously Intuit intends to continuing distancing itself further and further from its foundation of long-time users.  I am, or had been, a user of QB, TurboTax, Paytrust, and Tsheets for many years for whatever that's worth (presumably nothing).

What an absolute disgrace INTUIT. I guess your name comes from "intuitive", well, you are not. #pathetic
