If I have to buy a subscription, I am going to switch software.

Following this as well! I have been using Quickbooks since 1995 (at least!!)  I did transition one client to the online platform and it was HORRIBLE!!!  So bad that we have switched to manual payroll (thankfully its monthly and for 2 employees).  I have 4 other clients that need to update/upgrade and I will quit before moving to the online platform.  

I have QBooks 2021 for Non-Profits.  Desktop version. Can I purchase the 2024 desktop?

You have QB Desktop 2021 with a non subscription, correct? Why do you need to upgrade? Do you need to run any add-ons? e.g QB Payroll, QB Payment

Yes, you can purchase the QBDT 2024. However, 2022-2024 requires a subscription unlike the 2021 version is a one-time license.

I purchased a product with a non-subscription license and now I am not able to access because it says I need to renew my subscription!  Very small business that does not have money to throw around.  Incredibly frustrated, borderline fraud going on here!

To begin with, please know that since 2022, QuickBooks Desktop has moved to a subscription-based model in which you'll need to renew your subscription annually to continue using the application.

Since you're prompted to renew your subscription even if you've purchased one, we can log in to your CAMPs and see if your subscription is active, as suggested by 4Gal above.

Here's how:

1. Go to camps.intuit.com
2. Sign in with your Intuit Account info. 
3. If you see multiple products, select QuickBooks Desktop to go to CAMPs.

Once confirmed that your account is active and the error still occurs, you can contact our QuickBooks Desktop support, for they have the necessary tools to check and resolve this.

What is the cost to upgrade from QB Pro Desktop 2021 to the new subscription based plan?

I am a small bookkeeping service and have been in business, using Quickbooks, since 1998. I own 22 different QB desktop versions. I only have one client who uses QB online. QB online is a terrible product for anyone who actually does accounting. Very slow, not user friendly at all, extremely clunky and completely lacks required reports I use for other clients. It is also a nightmare to find/fix issues when making corrections to client mistakes. Other than my one client, I will NEVER use it. I would go back to pencil and recording keeping graph paper before I switched to online.

The last QB Pro 2021 desktop I purchased was $404.69 from Staples, and I was able to use that for 3 years before now needing to upgrade in order to continue having the pleasure of using the software.  I just spoke with the billing dept and they told me that it will now be an annual cost of $649 for the QB Desktop Pro Plus subscription, but could not confirm whether or not there will be price increases at the time of the automatic renewal to my credit card. I forgot to inquire if that price includes the payroll or if I will have to continue paying the additional (approx) $550 annual p/r fee as well.

These are steep price increases for small bookkeeping services like mine. Maybe it would just be cheaper to farm out the payroll to a third party service and continue using the old desktop without the updates. Does anyone know of a good payroll service?

You can use QB Desktop 2021 + a stand alone payroll app (e.g QB Online Payroll, 3rd party payroll apps). You will register your payroll expenses as JE in QB Desktop. Contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA and they can share a cheap 3rd party payroll app. i.e $190 per year + $30/employee/year.

I do not think that is correct. I received an email from Intuit where they committed to selling QuickBooks 2024 Pro and Premier through July 2024.
