Thanks for laying out the details of your concern, @bamsing-gmail-co. I'd like to share an insight about changing the default country of your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
The product's country that you choose when signing up for the account becomes the default region. There isn't an integrated way that'll let you change the country of your subscription.
In the meantime, you may want to create a new account with the United States subscription, and then cancel your account with the Australia subscription to switch to another country.

In addition, you can import your customers, suppliers, chart of accounts, and products and services list from the old account to the new one. Please refer to this article for a detailed process: Move your lists to QuickBooks Online.
