How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

I don't know if you really have our back.  Even if you do, I don't want you to.

Security is my risk, not yours.  I fully accept full responsibility if one of my employees does something to compromise my books (though  I do not accept responsibility if you get hacked).

We really don't need you to protect us from ourselves, at least without asking us.

I recognize you are but the messenger, but if you can convey our message up to the powers that be, please do so.

At some point I will vote with my feet, as will other users.  While this would not be the sole reason why, it is a contributing factor.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

INTRUSIVE, NEFARIOUS, and UNWARRANTED requirement!!

I will ONLY have security exposure if Intuit makes me log on to its site!!!

I use QB Desktop BECAUSE I don't want my QB file to be accessible from anywhere but my stand-alone, disconnected laptop!

WHY, WHY, WHY does Intuit have the right to do this?????

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

Hi there, LisaAmante.

I want to begin by saying that your description of the security requirements is not at all how Intuit meant to made you feel. Please know your best interest is the only intention with the security requirements for your Desktop account.

With that being said, I can also see the desire for an option to opt out or turn certain security measures off. I'll be sure to pass your feedback along to the Product Development Team to let them know you'd like to see these changes. You can keep any eye out for these types of updates by viewing the QuickBooks Blog.

In the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach back out if you have any other questions or concerns.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

I don't think you guys are hearing and understanding us. We don't use your software they way you think we do, and we don't have the needs you think we do. You should figure it out, but you're a monopoly, and we have no choice... for now. Once we do figure it out, you'll either change, or go out of business. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

If I had another choice... I would drop Quickbooks like a stone. That's a very sad comment on Intuit and how they have setup their end-user experience. This is why I am not inclined to buy a new version of the software every year, or subscribe to an expensive online service. We represent the largest user base of Quickbooks:  sole-proprietorships or home-run businesses/activities that require us to do basic accounting.

We utilize about 10% of Quickbooks' features, aren't interested in printing checks, online accounting, payroll services, or subscriptions. We're the ones who buy the desktop versions of your software, and complain when you force us to login to accounts we don't use, change our passwords routinely, or do other security measure designed for corporate environments - my business is run out of my home, not a corporate office.

There's nothing more I can say on this. Maybe I'll be prompted to login again and again, and again... who knows? All I know...is that it does NOTHING for my security, and all it does is inconvenience me, and so many others, who just want to enter our bills, deposits, and credit card statements, and be done with it. And when we're in a rush, the last thing we need, is to reset passwords, or login to our online accounts, get text messages for two-factor authentication, or go through ridiculous procedures just to enter that data. And...you guys are not listening.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

We already have to log in to our company file so why do we now have to log in to our company file and to our Intuit account? I've ran QB Desktop Pro for 10 years and have 3 company files; 1 of my company files is the same as always, I log in to my company file and that's it. The other 2 company files however have started requiring me to first long in to my company file, and then log in to my intuit account. Why? If my company file is set to get automatic payroll updates why do I need to log in every time? How can I stop this???

I was just going to post that, too. I also turned off Payments>Company Preferences>Payment Reminders, and made sure that Payroll & Employees>Company Preferences>No Payroll was checked.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

Hello there, @jmts.

Let me share some insights regarding the reminder of the Intuit account.

The steps given above will not affect downloading your transactions from your financial institution or stop the reminder you receive every 7days.

These steps are used to block third-party applications to access your company file. Your Intuit account is not a third-party app. it’s your account that will verify that you are the primary contact or the owner of your QuickBooks Desktop. Whenever you contact for support, your Intuit account will be used to verify your identity.

If you want to remove the reminder every 7days, I suggest login to your Intuit account.

You can also check out this article for more details with managing and securing your accounts: What are CAMPs and how do I use it?.

If you need further clarification or questions, please let me know. I am always here to help. Keep safe.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

Thank you, Intuit Community!  I am the person who posted this originally.  You, the users, all have spoken up very clearly that you find this requirement in the Desktop Edition to login to Intuit  not acceptable, not useful and you would like it changed.  Intuit employees - you have told us several times how you don't want us to feel the way we do about this.  That's not very helpful and basically invalidates our feelings and does not address the real security concerns of the users and also their annoyance with a time-wasting requirement.  Also there have been several other responses from Intuit that haven't hit the mark yet.  What we need is for Intuit to update the software so that this is either not required (without a nag) or that there is an obvious way to turn it off the nag/make it go away permanently.  Or at least put it on your development to-do list with a high priority given that the community has spoken out in a unified voice.  Intuit, please address the real concerns of so many community members.

This is a useless, pointless reply:

If you want to remove the reminder every 7days, I suggest login to your Intuit account.

The arrogance and dismissive tone is staggering.

You miss the *entire thread* is about *not logging in*.  Logging in simple allows a backdoor for Intuit and Quickbooks to access, use and store customer data that has not been shared with them in the past.   Many Quickbooks Desktop users specifically choose the program because the data file resides solely on their devices or devices they control.    This isn't just about personal privacy - many users provide accounting services for other companies and maintaining privacy is a matter of professional responsibility.

Quickbooks needs to fully everything that happens when a user "logs in to their Intuit account" from their desktop program - including all data that is accessed by Intuit, how it is stored, used and retrieved, when it is accessed and who has access to that data.  Further, Quickbooks needs to eliminate logging into an Intuit account to use the desktop program altogether.

The lack of transparency around this topic will almost certainly lead to legal problems for Quickbooks and Intuit.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

Hello there, @Pint.

This is not the impression we want you to have when using the product. Rest assured this is taken care of by our product developers to deliver the best experiences for all of the QuickBooks users. Most of the time, you'll get a prompt to log in to your Intuit account when creating or opening a new company file. This is to reinforce the security and license processes. You can choose the Remind option if you don't want to log in to your account. However, you'll still be asked to log in after 7 days.

I understand the importance of removing this prompt for you and to the other business owners as well. Hopefully, they'll consider the request in the coming updates. For now, you can stay current with the latest QuickBooks news and updates through our blog.

You can always visit us here if you have any other concerns. I'm a few clicks away to help. Keep safe!

This is not the impression we want you to have when using the product. Rest assured this is taken care of by our product developers to deliver the best experiences for all of the QuickBooks users.

This isn't just an impression.  We ran analytics and whenever one is logged into Quickbooks it is sending background data to Intuit, the nature, depth, and use of which is undisclosed.

The idea users should "rest assured this is taken care of" is laughable.   Intuit has, for years, been attempting to migrate desktop users to the online platform because (1) users don't own their data online and (2) Intuit has free reign to use that data.

At the beginning of this discussion Intuit asserted this was done for safety and security, but abandoned that line when users pushed back.  Now we are asked by Intuit employees to simply trust all is okay and maybe, if we are very lucky, someone will fix this in a future version.

Here's the impression I want you to get:  Eyerolls for every single half baked reply Intuit employees have made on this thread, not a single one of which has addressed the original issue.

"You can choose the Remind option if you don't want to log in to your account. However, you'll still be asked to log in after 7 days."

That is exactly the point of this thread.  We don't want to log on and we don't want to be reminded either.

I also do not want to have to log into Intuit to use a desktop version of QB. Right now only one of my three company files requires log in but from above I gather that will change for some odd reason so eventually all will. Change this because I will after using you like forever look at changing to some other program. Requiring log in is invasive and unnecessary for those only using this as a single user desktop program.

Be sure to pass it on. We are tired of QB forcing things on end users. Logging in to our intuit account opens up security issues, not protects us. Giving us the option is one thing; forcing us is another. I will be shopping for new software.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

I  made the mistake of allowing an update to my QB Pro 2018 (Desktop) tonight... which I only use to keep records for my small business... and I have used Quickbooks for many years.  Now I CANNOT get past this box that requires me to sign up for an Intuit account.  There is no option to close the box.  I have no control over my own Quickbooks program.

I am in complete agreement with every aggravated commenter here.  This is ridiculous.  We do NOT need  the Intuit online services.  We do NOT WANT them.

I was a happy Quickbooks customer until today.  I am only frustrated now.

Intuit: get a clue.  Stop telling us how much you are helping us.  The obvious way you can help your customers, is by giving us back control of our own Quickbooks.

Is there a feedback button?  This would send a message directly to the developers.  I also have that same popup and I also do not want to sign in online as I do not use any of their services.

I have the same problem.  Is there a feedback button that goes directly to the developers?   This is a money grab move by the way....not sucruity related.  This is a security hole as pointed out by another posters on this thread.  We do not need our information going into the internets, thats why we paid for the desktop version.

That, unfortunately, is not an option for companies like ours that use Quickbooks POS (aptly named) where we have to have that app connect to QB every night to transfer the daily run over to QB desktop. Every seven days the owner (me) has to go login because I'm certainly not giving out admin rights to employees. It's just crazy. What if I was on a two week buying trip and COULDN'T login??  QB just doesn't get it, again.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help companies that use aptly named QuickBooks POS software because it must be an approved integrated application to transfer the daily batch over to QB. I hope I never have to travel for more than 7 days because then an employee would need the admin login to get past this BS. No way I want to give employees my ADMIN login!!! QB is clueless on this topic apparently.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

Thank you, @almon !!  This is brilliant, it works and it is especially needed after I did a software update and now QB screams at me that my 28 day reminder period is over and I need to log into Intuit now!  No more 7 day reminder on-going - there was no dropdown to request more time.  Today is the first day I have gotten that message and it looks like Intuit has been doing the opposite of listening to its community.  Intuit, listen!  Please stop the madness!  Don't make it worse!

I also need to remember not to do any more software updates until someone reports that Intuit has fixed this issue.
