Attention all Quickbooks Users. Intuit has heard your feedback regarding your complete dissatisfaction with Intuit's requirement to logon to Intuit online and taken action.
The new update DISABLES the hotkey combination Alt-F4 to prevent users from using the workaround to close the Intuit Account logon window.
That is so incredibly obnoxious.
There is still a way to close the window, but Intuit will disable that ability if it is disclosed to them.
The Law? seriously -
I have an account and there is NO reason for me to log in for each company file.
There is only one reason Intuit wants us to sign in on each company file, so intuit can begin to charge for the number of company files each customer has.
I find this to be an invasion. This is information I would prefer not to sure. I only use the desktop product and have no need of monthly subscription services offered by Intuit. If I did I would be using them.
I am looking for new accounting software.

Stop Quickbooks from communicating on port 443 outwards from talking to Intuit. So far so good. Use the firewall tip above.
Does Quickbooks randomly assign new employees to post the same irrelevant information repeatedly to this thread?
We are discussing Quickbooks Desktop - software that resides on a user's computer and, excepting a few additional services like payroll or payments, shouldn't ever need to connect to the internet.
These repeated assertions this is about security or safety are nonsense. Intuit's new Privacy Statement clearly states it is using the data connection to access user data stored on local machines - data that Intuit has no business using. You are using a user account for one reason - to associate data you mine from desktop users with an account for marketing and research.
This data mining is highlighted by the addition of "business loans" where Quicken Capital integrated with Quickbooks Desktop to utilize local data to offer credit and loans to users - most who have never asked for this nor want a predatory lender snooping through their data. Perhaps Quicken Capital would like to explain to the readers of this thread how it (allegedly..cough cough) illegally partnered with Crossriver Bank to circumvent restrictions on Fintech offering PPP loans.
Stop trying to sell this repeated (and if you look at this thread) repeatedly refuted assertion Intuit is doing something for the benefit of it's customers.
Seriously Intuit - this thread is among the highest results on Google when you Google "Quickbooks Desktop". You're ignoring a growing swathe of your customers who are angry and no longer trust you.
@Pint"Does Quickbooks randomly assign new employees to post the same irrelevant information repeatedly to this thread?"
BINGO.
It is frustrating to be ignored, but it is more frustrating to have responses that are completely irrelevant.
I have indeed given the Windows Defender firewall fix a try and found thar it works very well for my needs. @NoForcedAcct , thank you again! I am tempted to Accept as Solution except for two things. 1.) Intuit might find a way to make that no longer work and 2. it is a workaround and not a real solution. A real solution would not have users employing Advanced firewall settings - usually you do not want folks who don't know just what they are doing setting firewall rules. Now I'm not saying that readers of this thread should not try it out - heck, you're very motivated and this is addressing a serious issue - but you should be careful to follow the instructions. And also not get carried away and start turning off a bunch of other connections unless you know what you are doing. I am saying that a large software company should have a better solution than this.
When I have time I will write another post that steps back and looks at the larger issue - has Intuit decided to no longer support the needs of a sizeable number of its desktop customers, and if so, will it help out these customers with a pathway forward to a solution provided by some other vendor that is willing to support their needs? Or is it just abandoning these customers - us? Or (if I might dream) is it willing to commit to fixing this issue?
I have a feeling that the Desktop version is destined for the scrapheap.
Intuit want us online with QBO or subscription based. (hence logging in to confirm you are paid up)
Neither of which is for me.
Call me old fashioned, but I want to buy my software once, then update it when I need to. Run it for years even... In a small non-profit we do not need new features every year. Just something reliable.
I guess that is not who they want to make money from.
Until I find something better, I stay with my desktop version, and port 443 blocked at firewall for the Quickbooks exe file.
Yes, the firewall fix is working. See NoForcedAcct and FlyingWiki's posts.
Exactly. I work from home. In a separate file, I also have my personal books. There is NO OTHER PERSON besides me accessing these files. My computer is behind 2 or 3 firewalls. It's desktop, not online.
Even weirder is that my business file is not asking me for a password all the time. My personal file is. I don't store credit cards in QB for personal or business.
So incredibly annoying. I think this might be the year I migrate to Wave...or a pegboard!! For Pete's sake! Let ME choose. It don't want to have to log in to use the desktop software. Why are you protecting me from myself?????
Calling Intuit is a freaking nightmare. Especially if you are hearing impaired and can't understand foreign accents. Oh my gosh!!!!!! Not only can you not understand THEM, THEY can't understand YOU.
Eff Intuit.
Aside from making sure no credit cards are stored in QB, turning off payment prompts seems to have helped. I probably just jinxed it.
Also disabling integrated applications, which I never used in the first place. My needs are simple. QB makes things too difficult.
Except those were disabled in my business file, and no prompts, except every 90 days. Personal file, yes. GAHHH. I hope it's fixed now.
I realize we purchased a LICENSE to use the software, and we pretty much don't OWN it, but put a danged disclaimer in the license, in case some of us are just too stupid to use professional bookkeeping software securely. I'm an experienced bookkeeper AND a web designer. I don't need you to save me. And stop making us phone home to Intuit just to open a company file.
Very often in my area, actually many times a month I don't have internet, so your saying I can't work on my files? Can I bill Intuit for that time or for lost revenue?
Hi @Heathen,
I'll handle this query for you about the log in process of your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company file.
You can follow the steps provided by a user here in the thread. They have a workaround that blocks the pop up that asks you to log in using your Intuit account. Search for a post from @NoForcedAcct.
You also have another option to prevent this popup each time you open QuickBooks. See this article: Intuit login is required every time a company file is opened.
If you have other concerns about your Intuit account billing, feel free to contact our Technical Support team for assistance. See this article for the steps: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.
Post a comment below if you have other concerns about your QBDT company. I'll be sure to take care of them.
Ryan_M - To be exact and perfectly clear:
QB USERS DO NOT WANT TO SIGN IN TO INTUIT USE SOFTWARE ON THEIR OWN COMPUTER.
Hundreds of QB Customers have commented and agreed with this statement. Thousands are searching Google and other sites for solutions to this needless intrusion by intuit. Keep ignoring customers at your peril. Many area dumping QB because of this STUPID protocol established by intuit. Ryan_M, you have a choice to advocate for a solution or join the ranks of the Borg.
Listen to Customers. Customers. Customers.
Or soon you will have none.

My goodness... A Quickbooks Employee recommending our community workaround....
Opening your firewall and blocking outward access (on port 443) for QBW32.EXE and QBW32PremierWholesale.exe (or whatever version you have)
@Heathen That is a summary of the workaround. Detailed steps are higher up in the thread.
This is not an acceptable solution - works for those with some tech knowledge, but SHOULD NOT BE NEEDED.
the first option of NoForceAcct seems to be by blocking the app with my firewall, Really?? How poor of a deal is that? The second option you gave seems to be in regards to the cause being an error. The problem here is having to stay logged into Intuit with the app, this is nothing but Big Brother and greed in action. I paid to use the product and I want to be able to use it without having to hack around. If you would have put a disclaimer on the the product upgrade I wouldn't have done it. I can promise I will do something else before I pay for another upgrade!
Does anyone know of another way to get rid of this message? We are on a domain and store the company file on a separate server so we can't add the Windows firewall rules to block qbw32.exe connections. Our corporate firewall does not have the granularity to block applications only specific IP addresses.
We also can't login to the Intuit account since the Admin does not know her Intuit online password and when she clicks the forgot password link she gets an email to reset the password but the reset password link just goes to a blank white page.
We also do not want to log in since we fear that it may try and copy our company file to the cloud. We don't want it in the cloud since it's size is over 4GB and needs to stay on prem.
For folks like me who aren't IT related, what steps did you take to create the rules? I can get to Windows Defender and the spot to create a rule for inbound and outbound, but from the point of selecting options once you hit the create a rule button, I'm lost.
Any help is appreciated to stop QB from asking me for my log in credentials in order to use the program.
Been all day trying to find a workaround for this new "security feature" - called Intuit "tech support" twice - 40 minutes on hold, a person who can't speak English and then the call magically dropped. So what I have learned from this thread is I have to firewall block QB now so I'm not hounded to log in to an Intuit account to use my desktop software.
Inuit - I no longer recommend your software and after this new "feature" I will not only not recommend your products I will avoid them whenever possible.

I am so Angry I could spit. Of course here we are at the end of the year when I need to get my clients records together for their accountant, I have been blocked. I could not even get out of QuickBooks because I was not fulfilling their demands. So I did what they wanted which was to have an intuit password for all the intuit programs. But now I'm working on the same clients personal accounts and now they will not accept the password they forced me to change. Now I am frozen. I have spend many hours trying to appease Intuits needs. I get a robot when I try to speak to customer support. The robot only has certain question and problems to solve none of which are my problem. I think I should send intuit a bill for my time. I still need help to get into my account, where on Gods earth can I find it.
Hello there, @Elisa. I appreciate your input from every angle, and I can see the urgency of getting this resolved.
To start, let's reset your password since you're having trouble logging in to your account. Here's how:
If you've encountered an error when resetting your password, this time, let's try using the Automated Password Reset tool.
For more guidance, feel free to check out this article: Use the Automated Password Reset Tool for QuickBooks Desktop.
Let me know if you can get logged in successfully. I'll be here if you need further assistance. Have a great day!
I don’t know where your going with this. I don’t have a password problem I have an Intuit problem. I have to login to intuit to access to my files if I don’t have internet then I’m stuck. I can push it out 90 days but intuit has no business having access to my files and my employee information. As far as I’m concerned intuit puts my company at risk! Now Since Intuit has gone Nazi on us. Had there been a disclosure about your practices I wouldn’t have updated now I’m stuck.
I want to add that I am also facing the same issue of being asked to create an Intuit account for services I do not want on the QB Desktop version I use. I also use Desktop for security purposes, which the Intuit log in completely counters. Furthermore it's a complete waste of time to figure out how to get rid the Intuit pop up when all I want to do is access the file and work. Why is Intuit preventing that? At the very least, it should promote Quickbooks Desktop as an online product because that appears to be what Intuit is doing.
