Since you're unable to go to the Preferences menu, I suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Doing this will refresh the system and fix the problem.
Here's how to uninstall the product:
- Open the Windows Start menu, then open the Control Panel.
- Click Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
- From the list of programs, select the version of QuickBooks Desktop you want to remove.
- Select Uninstall/Change, Remove, and click Next.
When you’re done, install QuickBooks Desktop. Please note that doing this will replace and rename your old folders.
