Good Afternoon
I have quickbooks pro 2009 desktop and want to transfer onto another quickbooks pro 2014. Is that doable? Been reading where it needs to happen in steps.
Thanks
Good evening, @Hayden50.
Thanks for joining in on this thread. I can point you in the right direction so that you can get an answer to your question about your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
If you've reviewed what my colleagues have stated above and tried their methods, I recommend contacting our Customer Support Team. They'll be able to use a screen share tool to help upgrade your 2009 QB to 2014. You'll need to upgrade by 3 years in order to get your company file to the 2014 version.
Here's how:
That's all there is to it!
Let me know how the phone call goes. I want to ensure that you're able to get back on track. If you run into any trouble along the way, feel free to ask. I'm always here to lend a helping hand. Bye for now!
Create a backup file on your QBD 2009 and restore it on QBD 2014. If you encountered any error, you may install the trial license of QBD 2011 as the stepping stone.
Thanks for your reply and suggestions. Will give it a shot
Thanks for your reply and suggestion. Will try it out.
I'm thinking about finally buying new software. Can I import my 2009 data without jumping through a bunch of hoops?
You may have 2 options:
1. Utilize the trial license of 2011, 2015 and maybe 2019 to convert your old file prior to opening it on QBD 2021.
2. Purchase a 3rd party upgrade service
Utilize the trial license of QBD 2021 to open the converted file. Then you may purchase a one time license of QBD 2021 Pro for 1 user worth $399 or Premier for 1 user worth $499.
I have a client who has Quickbooks Pro 2010 and has upgraded to windows 10 and its not compatible. I understand we can use 2016 Trial version to update data file then import to 2021 version. Can someone please provide 2016 Trial download link and any codes we need?
Thank you for your help.
Thanks for joining in the thread, @DerekH79.
As of the moment, we can only provide the trial links for the latest available versions of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
However, you have to reach out to our customer support so they can provide you the trial links for QBDT 2016. This way, you can install the product and update its data file, then import it to the 2021 version.

@ReymondO thanks for the quick response. I am returning to the clients next friday. When I use the Quickbooks Pro 2010 Help how long does it take for them to respond usually? Or is this live support? The link you provided only has 2021 trial and I am unable to find the 2016 trial anywhere.
I appreciate your help, just looking to go to clients on friday and have everything prepared instead oh hurry up and wait. Lol.
Thanks again

Any specific concern?
Hello,
I have tried updating our company file to the latest version so we can get into QBO. After working with Desktop support, we encountered issues opening the company file and they pretty much gave and referred me to an IT professional. Who would I contact about getting Intuit to update our company file and put it into QBO for us?
Thank you,
Michael

i am trying to convert an old (2004) QB data file to a current version and then export the data into an excel spreadsheet.
called QB, spent over an hour, but unless you get the right person, they are unable to provide a good solution.
Hi User91,
Thank you for joining the thread. Let me route you to the team who can help you with the upgrade.
The versions that you'll need are already obsolete, and you won't be able to install them anymore. In this case, the best option is to really contact our QuickBooks Support team. The steps are provided in the previous responses above and I've also hyperlinked the article for it. Just tell them that you want to upgrade your company file from version 2004 to version 2021.
If you need further assistance, you can always go back to this thread.
@User91 wrote:i am trying to convert an old (2004) QB data file to a current version and then export the data into an excel spreadsheet.
Just to clarify, why do you waste time to upgrade your old file to QBD 2021 and yet you will export the data out to XLS? Do you need to convert your data to another accounting app?
I have an older version from 2003 that needs to be restored for a forensic accounting case. How do I go about that one?
Are you still using QB Desktop or just need to restore the file to access the data you need?
Welcome to this thread, Ralf Klenke.
I can see the urgency of restoring your QuickBooks 2003. Let me help and guide you on how to get the file working again.
As mentioned by @qbteachmt on the first page of this thread, QuickBooks has a 3-year lifecycle. You’ll have to upgrade QuickBooks from 2003 to 2006, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2018, 2021, or 2022. Then rebuild the file in between.
Before performing the process, create a backup copy of the company file to prevent accidental loss. Also, make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements for a seamless process.
When you’re ready, restore your company file to the latest QuickBooks version. If you encounter any hurdles during the restoration process, I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team. They can install the file for you and ensure you can use it for your accounting case.
