I am trying to re connect to my bank account and it is not working....prompt says enter account type

My bank was acquired.  The connection from my bank checking and qb online was interrupted.  In an attempt to reconnect, QB is asking "which accounts do you want to connect?" and lists two accounts.  The account I want to connect is showing on the screen with a prompt box to the right "enter account type" with a down arrow that, when clicked, gives me one choice....an incorrect choice.  I cannot type over it.  When I try with the arrowed pre chosen account type, I then get and error message that says: The account Checking:POS Withdrawal has a parent account that is already connected to a account at one of your banks.  I'm stuck at this point.

I appreciate the effort you have put into reconnecting your bank account after recent changes, and for pointing out the specific prompts and messages you’re encountering, @LCEF.

The error appears because QuickBooks Online doesn't allow duplicate connections if a parent account is already connected. This setup ensures accurate tracking by linking only the correct accounts. Since your bank has undergone changes, the connection will need some adjustments.

To resolve this, you’ll need to disconnect the parent account from its bank connection in QuickBooks first, then reconnect the sub-account. Here’s what to do:

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the connected parent account in the list.
  3. Click the dropdown menu under the Action column and select Edit.
  4. Look for the Connect to Bank section and click Disconnect this account on save.
  5. Save your changes.
  6. Then, go to the Banking tab and reconnect the sub-account. You’ll now be able to link it without seeing the parent account error.

For more information about parent and subaccount setups, check out this article: About bank and credit card subaccount setup.

Alternatively, you can download your bank transactions manually and upload them to QuickBooks. This keeps your data accurate while the connection issue is resolved.
