Missing Customer information in QBO conversion

I converted my QB Desktop file to QBOnline, but much of my customer information did not update.  I am missing phone numbers and a few other fields.  Is there a way to update this information with an excel upload, or do I need to manually update all of that information?

Missing Customer information in QBO conversion

Let me help update the customer information in QuickBooks Online (QBO), m_seale.

There are limitations when migrating from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QBO. And, some fields won't move to the online version.

You can refer to this article and check from the List section to see what other fields won't convert: Learn how features and data move from QBDT to QBO

For now, you can either import the customer contact list or manually update the information.  Here's how to update customer information:

  1. Go to Customers & leads and select Customers.
  2. Select the customer you need to update the information of.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Enter the missing information, then click Save.

If you choose to import, here's Excel files should look at and the detailed steps.

Once you set up all the information in QBO, you can get started with QuickBooks Online. I'm adding these articles for your next step.

Let me know if there is other missing information from the migration. Just leave a comment below and I'll get back to you.

Missing Customer information in QBO conversion

The missing information is the mobile/cell phone field, which I didn't see on the list.  We have around 2500 customers, so I'm not looking forward to all of that data entry, but I don't want to have duplicate entries, or lose all of my customer history.  If there is a better solution, please let me know.

Missing Customer information in QBO conversion

I know the hassle of manually updating your customer's information, @m_seale.

As mentioned by my colleague @MaryLandT, you have another option to import a customer contact list instead, as this is only the workaround for now.

Meanwhile, I recommend submitting product feedback to our engineers so the function you're looking for will add to the latest update. To send feedback, follow the below steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Then select Next to submit feedback.

You may also visit our Feedback forum page. From there, you can see a list of other QuickBooks users who already suggested this feature, as well as the recent updates in QuickBooks.

Additionally, I'd suggest checking out this article: QuickBooks Help Articles for Sales and Customers to further guide you in managing your business growth and income transactions in QuickBooks Online. It includes topics about managing sales and payment transactions and customizing forms, to name a few.

If you have any other concerns concerning your QBO account, please don't hesitate to comment below. I'm always around to help. Take care, @m_seale.
