Move transactions to different account

Hello, I need help moving transactions under one account to another one. There’s are transactions I imported with a file. I tried everything already. I went to categorized and put undo, I went into the reports and selected each transaction to try to change the account. Everything I try it doesn’t work. It says I have to un-match downloaded transactions or something like that.

Move transactions to different account

On behalf of QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA), I appreciate your detailed concerns about moving transactions to a different account, Flor Isola. Thank you for your efforts. I'll share some insights into the issue you're facing.

First, you must unmatch all transactions before changing categories. QuickBooks automatically matches new bank and credit card transactions with existing entries or creates new records if no match is found. You simply review and approve these. However, if transactions are matched or categorized incorrectly, adjustments are necessary. Here's how:

  1. Go to Transactions, then select Bank Transactions.
  2. Select the tile for the bank or credit card account you downloaded the transaction from. Then click the Categorized tab.
  3. Find the transaction you want to unmatch.
  4. Pick the blue transaction link in the Added or Matched column to see the matched transaction.
  5. Choose Undo from the Action column.

For more information about unmatch or move transactions, you can check this article: Unmatch downloaded bank transactions or move them to another account.

Move transactions to different account

Thank you, I appreciate your response but I already tried everything it says on quickbooks and googles and I’m still not able to get it right. Maybe my confusion is in the process of un-matching? I’m not sure I understand what this means. Is this not having any category for it? Is that even possible? And if so, what does that have to do with being able to select a new bank account for it?

Move transactions to different account

I see the confusion. I’m trying to move the transaction from the checking account to a Venmo account (bank accounts. Not trying to change the account/category name. Trying to move transactions to show under my Venmo account instead of my checking account.

Thank you for your prompt response and for providing detailed information about your situation, Flor.  Allow me to assist you further so you can successfully move transactions from your checking account to Venmo. Since you want to record the transaction under your Venmo account, we can delete and then recreate the specific transaction.

Here's how to delete:

  1. From the Categorized tab, click Undo for the transaction so it will go back to the For Review tab.
  2. From the For Review tab, select it again and tap Exclude.
  3. From the Excluded tab, put a check mark on it and then choose Delete.

Then, recreate the transaction to record it appropriately.
