QB (multi-user) is running on a cloud server (AWS). All users run QB via Remote Desktop session on the server. Most QB users are non-admins on the server, so when QB Utility get launched by QB, it requires admin rights (which the users don't have) so the user is locked out of QB. I, as server admin, must run QB (which then launches QB Utility) and then QB opens properly for myself and all other users.
I assume QB Utility is randomly run to check for updates(?). Is there any QB setting or any way I can prevent QB Utility from getting launched when QB opens (especially for the non-admin users)?
Hi danno3,
We won't encourage admin users to disable the QuickBooks Utility, as it may affect some functions in the QuickBooks program. It's designed to stop any programs from running without the user's permission and limits any progressions on your framework.
If you really want to disable it, I recommend getting assistance from an IT professional.
Feel free to go back to this thread if you have other questions in mind. I'm just around to help.
Not looking to necessarily 'disable' it, if it's needed for other functions beyond simply checking for updates. What about allowing all users to run it without requiring admin rights on the server? I don't know where the executable is for QB Utilty (so I can perhaps set permissions on it).
Hi there, @danno3.
I'll share some insights about the Utility application in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).It protects your computer and reduces the exposure and attack surface of the operating system by initially starting with all users running in standard mode.
Currently, the option to disable the QuickBooks Utility is unavailable.I suggest sending feedback directly to our product developers. They're always looking for ideas to consider on how to improve QuickBooks.
Here's how to submit feedback:

Thanks for further explaining the what the QB Utility does, but I still don't know it's file location. There's no start menu shortcut to it and no desktop icon. I guess I'll have no choice but to create a daily scheduled task to launch QB daily as an admin to generate the prompt so other non-admin users don't get locked out of running QB. If I knew where the QB Utility was located, I could create a Scheduled Task to run that as admin.
