QBD to QBO issues, want to redo transition and move transactions to new QBO version

My client moved from QBDesktop Premier to QBO Basic (before I got them). They've been on QBO Basic for 4 months and are not happy. We want to move them to QBO Advanced. Is it best to redo the transition from QBD to QBO Advanced? Then is there a way to get the four months of transactions from Basic into Advanced? Thanks!

QBD to QBO issues, want to redo transition and move transactions to new QBO version

Hello again, Ann_A.

You can export your QuickBooks Online (QBO Basic) data to your computer and import it to your new (QBO Advanced) account. Let me show you how.

  1. In your QBO Basic account, click the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Export data.
  3. In the Reports tab, select the date range and choose the report you want to export.
  4. Click Export to Excel.
  5. Then, go to the Lists tab.
  6. Choose CustomersEmployees, and Vendors.
  7. Click Export to Excel.

For more details, you can read this article: Export reports, lists, and other data from QuickBooks Online.

Once done, save the data to your computer and import it to your QBO Advanced account. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Import data.
  3. Choose the data you want to import.
  4. Click the Browser button and select the file you export.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Follow the onscreen instruction.

I'm adding this resource for more guidance: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if you need clarification about this, or there's anything else I can do for you. I'll be standing by for your response. Have a great day.

QBD to QBO issues, want to redo transition and move transactions to new QBO version

Thanks for reaching out to us, @Ann_A.

I'll share some information about moving your existing QuickBooks Online (QBO) file to QBO Advanced. Currently, the option to redo the transition is unavailable. If your client is still using the QBO basic subscription, they can upgrade their existing QBO account to QBO Advanced.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Gear.
  2. Select Account and Settings.
  3. Choose the Billing & Subscription tab.
  4. Hover towards your QBO subscription and then click the Upgrade your plan link. See the image below.
  5. Follow the steps that'll guide you through the rest.

However, if you're already subscribed to QBO Advanced, you'll have to export and import the list manually. Refer to these articles below for your guide:

I've also added this link to learn the different features in using QBO Advanced: QuickBooks Advanced Features.

Still have questions? Please don't hesitate to drop them below and I'll be happy to answer them for you. Take care and have a wonderful day.

Thanks but I have another question. Why can't we take the previous QBDesktop file and transition it to QBO Advanced? We would be four months out of date with transactions, but is there no way to export those transactions and import them into the QBO Advanced file? Thank you!

QBD to QBO issues, want to redo transition and move transactions to new QBO version

Thanks for getting back to us, @Ann_A. I'd be glad to provide information about migrating files from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online Advanced.

The success of your migration depends on how complex your company file is. The company file is where all of the information about your business is stored, including inventory, employee information, customer lists, banking history, accounting records, and so on.

Alternatively, here’s how to import file from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online:

  1. Sign in as an admin to the company file you need to import.
  2. Go to the Company menu, then select Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Select Start your export.
  4. Sign in as an admin to your QuickBooks Online company.
  5. Select the Choose online company▼ dropdown, and choose the QuickBooks Online company you want to be replaced by your company file.
  6. Select Continue.
  7. Enter “Agree” in the text field, then select Replace.
  8. Select Yes, go ahead and replace the data, then select Replace.

Otherwise, you can import files from import page in QuickBooks Advanced.  You can also check these articles for more details about:

Loop me in if you have other concerns, I'd be glad to assist you. Take care!

OK, thank you but you didn't address my question of:

is there no way to export transactions from QBO Basic and import them into the QBO Advanced file?

I do understand how to transition from QB Desktop to QBO Advanced. Thanks!

@Ann_A

Utilize a migration tool.

Anyway, why they need to upgrade from Simple Start to Advanced?
