Well, It's been 4 months since your post and this thread is over 550 comments! I too have the same issue with NO real help. I downgraded to 2022 Pro R4 which worked great BUT I'm forced to update when I run out of update popup skips (Which is 5). Once I'm on R5, we are back to crashing.
Here is my crash
----------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am sadly sure that it will not be repaired as Intuit was us all on the online version. and 2023 will be released soon. I have begun seeking a replacement accounting software. This kind of issue should be at the highest priority to repair. It's with the browser connection. And if i force IE11 off, QB will not INSTALL!! popup stating it need IE11. Unbelievable
We all need to start demanding a refund. If we all start demanding refunds then maybe they will do something about it.
Cashe18-How can one revert to update version R4? I was on chat today with Quickbooks technical support, and they said it wasn't possible. They said that once I upgraded to the R5 update, my QB file would no longer open if I revert to the R4 update. I am having daily crashing problems, so any solution, even temporary, would be helpful!
Everyone who keeps experiencing this problem should record it with you phone when it crashes and go to Social media (twitter, FB, Instagram Reels, stories) tag them and use a hashtag like #QBkeepscrashing #quickbooks2022notworking #intuitfixthequickbooksproblems when they feel the public relations pressure and that info go directly to corporate they will do something, apparently here is this blog controlled by support is not getting anywhere.
How about THIS for more QB fun and games, kids? I ALWAYS turn off automatic update and I even disable the qbupdate process. But apparently Intuit, in their infinite wisdom, has decided that my 22 years in IT (nearly 13 of those wrangling QuickBooks) isn't enough to trust me with managing my own environment and they merrily did an update last night. It wiped out all of my users shortcut icons (and boy they struggle when my carefully configured, personalized desktops go awry) AND loaded a version of R5 that is now crashing like everyone else's. I guess they figured I was going to feel left out with a stable version of R5. Until last night, my main QB server and remote desktop server were stable and my users were happy.
Alas, no more. My users are angry because QuickBooks Enterprise 2022 r5_143 is about as stable as the psychotic IT manager that I'm about to morph into. Now I'm going to have to slog through files and backups to find an older version of R5 that I know I have saved somewhere because I never delete anything. If I didn't know better, I would think Intuit was driving me to use QuickBooks Online.......Which, btw Intuit folks, I will NEVER do because it isn't robust enough, it would be prohibitively expensive to manage the 150+ company files I manage, and I wouldn't trust you to host our annual holiday party, which only needs all the booze you can drink to be a success.
And please don't reply how you don't want this to be my experience with QuickBooks and how it can be solved by using the QB hub tool, or QB file doctor, or just run a repair on the company file (all 150+ are broken? That doesn't reflect well on you now, does it). Looks like another all-nighter for me.
lk32,
QuickBooks technical support is wrong. As long as the file is the same product version (i.e. QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop 2022 or QBE 2020), it doesn't matter what the REV version (revision) is (R3, R4 or R5, etc). I have QBE 2022 R3_97 installed on one of my servers because R5 won't even open. I see the splash screen flicker and then nothing.
The users on the R3_97 QB 2022 server open files saved on a central file server. I have another group of users who open the same files stored on that central file server using R5_143 QBE 2022 without any problems. I even did a test where I opened a file on the R3_97 QB 2022 server in multi-user mode and then opened the same file on the R5_143 QBE 2022 server - both files open with QBE 2022, even though one file is open with an older Rev version.
Now I wouldn't be able to open a file that was upgraded to QBE 2022 on an old machine where QBE 2020 was installed - QuickBooks isn't backwards compatible in that manner. I've seen several users ask QB support for one of the older revs for QB 2022 and they are also told, erroneously that you can't do that. They are wrong. One caveat is that I only use QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop so I can't confirm the same behavior on the Pro/Premier releases, but I'm sure there are others here who can.
As for where to find the R4 to download, I can't help with that. I usually have to manually download at least one update during a cycle (because the product won't do it by itself) and I keep most of those downloads. You used to be able to download older revisions from Intuit but I did a quick search and couldn't find where. Perhaps someone else can look.
So I have had this same problem when I was running QBD 2020 so I thought if I updated, it would go away. I upgraded to QBD 2022 and have the same issue. Crashing when it opens after I enter my credentials. Sometimes I have to do this 2 or 3 times. Then it stabalizes and have had no other issues. Some users sound like they are having more crashing besides that, but for me it was just when I opened it. I've been following this feed and tried several of the suggested fixes and none of them worked. I then contacted support to ask to be added to this investigation, but before they did, they had me try the following: Here are the steps in order to prevent Quickbooks Desktop 2022 from force closing after logging in to a company file:
1. Turn off your computer's internet connection.
2. Open your QBDT and then the file.
3. Edit QBDT User preference to to turn off Left Navigation Bar.
Edit menu> Preferences > then under General - Turn off pop-up messages for products and services. . You can also remove the check mark for What's New, under the Help menu (couldn't find this).
4. Turn internet back on and use QBDT as normal with Left Navigation Bar turned off.
I did this on Monday when I was in, and I just came in today and logged in and IT WORKED. It didn't crash for the first time in months. Something so simple. Hopefully it's not just a fluke. I am running Windows 10 PRO, version 21H2. I also had issues with payroll excel tax reports opening. It said the macro was corrupt. I located the file on my hard drive, opened it that way and ran the macro and it ran fine. I went back to QB and ran it again and now it opens again. (Of course, I've only done one payroll on the new software. Fingers crossed)
I am also having this problem. It is extremely frustrating. What is being done to address this?
Thanks for joining the Community, Lizbeth1.
I've reviewed our ongoing investigation about this and can confirm it's still being researched by Intuit's Product Investigations team.
To receive email notifications about any updates relating to our investigation, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team and referencing its case number (INV-74349). This will also help Intuit to collect the data necessary to conduct further research into what's causing QuickBooks to crash.
They can be reached while you're signed in.
Here's how:
Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.
As a workaround, you can turn off your computer's internet and make some changes to QuickBooks. This will allow you to use the program as normal:
You'll also be able to find many detailed resources about using QuickBooks in our help article archives.
Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a great day!
I have done some additional research, and found that I have customers on Ver QB 2020, 2021, and 2022 having the same issues. All started after the June maintenance release.
Where is the button to " turn off your option for the left navigation bar to display."? I don't see it anywhere.
"You can also remove the check mark for What's New, under the Help menu" I don't see this part. Where is it?
How is this an accepted solution? The only thing solved here is how to contact Intuit to be told they are sorry for any inconvenience. Get real.
I wasn't sure how this solved the problem either.
What worked for me was go to edit----> preferences ---> desktop view (on the left side) - then click to UNMARK
SHOW HOME PAGE WHEN OPENING A COMPANY FILE
This was the only thing that worked for me and my clients. After you login, While the Home page is loading, hold down the Alt key until it finishes. At that point, you want to change preferences. The issue has nothing to do with the side bar, bit rather the Home Page trying to load.
This is all well and good but I have over 150 active QB files with 10 users. Do you know how long it would take me to do this for every file? As it was I worked all night ripping out QuickBooks r5_143 root and branch so I could reinstall R5_45 since R5_143 was crashing ever 30 minutes or so for all 10 of my users. Somehow it updated itself even though I typically disable automatic updates.
And I find it completely unacceptable that I have to spend MY time reporting and issue that has been happening since May. Do you not employ real developers? What data do they need to gather? I'll sum it up again for them - the problem began in May after we (those of us who manage and/or use QB) did a routine upgrade on QBE 2022 which turned out to be the cursed R5 revision. For most users, the R5 revision caused QuickBooks to crash, whereas prior revisions didn't. I'm running R3 on one of my servers and others have rolled back to R4, just to get some work done. I personally spent the entire Memorial Day weekend, installing and uninstalling R5 and gather data. I narrowed the problem on one of my servers to a malformed security certificate. You want data, its simple, go find my first post in this thread. It will tell your developers everything they need to know about the issue I had without me having to spend another minute listening to how to download and use the QB Hub tool (which has nothing to do with anything). I simply can't comprehend why this is taking sol long beyond the obvious conclusion that Intuit really doesn't care about their customers. I'm ready to throw in the towel and recommend one of the outrageously priced but true enterprise solutions that are available. I'm at the end of my patience with Intuit.
This quickbook restore has solved our crashing issue. Since we have done the restore update i have bot had issues! I have 2 more computers to complete the restore on.
Hello there, scan wizard for desktop computer.
I'm glad that the QuickBooks restore solved your crashing issue. While we are still waiting for our product engineers to completely solve this issue, you can continue doing it with the rest of your computers.
Anyway, if you're still experiencing any other issues, you can always let us know so we can help you fix them.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with INTUIT SUPPORT yesterday with my sole purpose of just getting onto INV-74349 in order to get status update and still was not able to complete the process. The support tech refused to simply add me to the ticket. Instead, insisted on going down the black hole of trying to resolve the issue. When I finally thought we were to the place that my request would be honored, we "got disconect" and he never called me back. I do not have another 2 hours or patience to do it again.
Been there, I feel your pain! I was able to get added to the ticket for updates in about 10 mins by using the Intuit chat feature. Calling their support has never been productive for me either. In the chat, they just asked for the company name, contact info, and how I heard about the ticket to be added. Hopefully that works as easy for you as it did for me.
Hi there, DeanACS.
This isn't the kind of customer service I want you to feel and please know that we aim to address an issue as soon as possible. With this, I'll ensure you'll be routed to the right team to assist you further on the ongoing INV you've mentioned.
I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team again, so they can add you to the INV. This will help our engineers determine the number of affected users. You'll also receive an update through email once this has been resolved. Also, inform them that your previous call was disconnected so they can check the ticket and add you to our notification list.
Lastly, you may refer to this article to see various details on how you can fix general problems when your company file won't open: What to do if you can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.
Let me know if you have any additional questions related to QuickBooks or if there is anything else I can help with, DeanACS. I'm always here to assist. Have a great day!
I also cannot find the option for turning off the left navigation bar to display. Or the "remove check mark for What's New under the help menu. I am using QB version 2022 Pro Plus. Can someone post the exact steps for doing these two things?

We have moved to a multi-user (just 2 computers so far) environment with off-site hosting. It is impossible to connect to a remote file with the internet turned off. But since an internet connection with less than 300 mbps speed is useless to connect I find it impossible o work remotely at home where my speeds are around 50-100
But I do get continual "we are unable to open your company file please download the latest version of Tool Doctor..." error message and after maybe third try I can open intended file.
I appreciate you for getting back in the thread, @lk32. I've got you covered, and I'll ensure you can navigate these sections in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company file and prevent the application from forcing you to close once you access your company.
Know that the steps you're trying to perform aim to reduce the time it takes for the data processor to process your activities in your QBDT application. That said, unchecking these sections lets you use your application smoothly without having to experience the application crashing or having pop-up messages blocking your field of view when doing your tasks.
Please be aware that the Preference section can only be accessed in the Edit tab on your left navigational bar. Once you're in the preference section, you can un-check the box for Turn off pop-up messages for products and services. If this section is unchecked, it prevents QuickBooks from showing you product advertisements when you're using QBDT while connecting your personal computer to the internet. To begin, here's how:
Also, to un-check the What's New. You'll have to go to the New Feature section that can be found in the Help tab of your QuickBooks Desktop company. Un-checking this section prevents QBDT from showing you a pop-up message that displays new features you can use in your Desktop application. Here's how:
In addition, I've got you this article to help you fix common errors in your QBDT application: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.
You can also visit this page in case your QBDT application stops working: Fix issues when QuickBooks has stopped working.
