Hi -
I saw this when I logged in this morning that QB Desktop 2021 will be discontinued. We currently have one and it's on an on-prem server. Are we still be able to access QB 2021 after 5/31/2024 without any issues if we don't upgrade? Will this end of support affect any of our historical data?
Thank you.
Alex
I’d like to express my appreciation for taking the time to post in our QuickBooks Community forum, @Alex480.
Please note that upgrading your QuickBooks Desktop 2021 software will have an impact on your business's historical data. After May 31, 2024, all 2021 versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, QuickBooks Desktop Premier, QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions v21 will be discontinued, along with other Intuit products.
If you choose not to upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop 2021 by May 31, 2024, you will no longer have access to live technical support, and you won't be able to integrate with any of the other Intuit services. This includes QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, QuickBooks Desktop Payments, and online bank feeds. Discontinued versions won't receive the latest critical security patches and updates. This also means you won't receive critical security updates protecting your data starting June 1, 2024.
Products affected by service discontinuation after May 31, 2024

I hope our conversation has been helpful. If you require any more support or have any questions about your QuickBooks Desktop upgrades, feel free to comment below anytime. Have a pleasant day!
If you don't use any add-ons (e.g QB Payroll, QB Payment), you can keep using 2021 for good.
The potential problem is the bank feed feature after May 2024. You can download .qbo files from your bank BUT you can't import directly into your QB Desktop. If your bank provides *.csv files, you will need to use a 3rd party tool to import it into QB Desktop. It's a $199 one time license and you can get $100 cashback to purchase the license from a partner.

This helps, thank you for the reply.
I don't think we use any of those add-ons but I will double-check with the users. Thank you for the reply.

QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus starts from $650 for single user. You must call their sales team to purchase a new license. Another option, you can get it from selected partners and you can also get $100 cashback.
Hi - is this $650 per user/license just a one-time payment? is there a discount for multi-user?

How many user license do you need?
We currently have 4 users. That said, we are thinking of still keeping an on-prem QB.
QB Desktop 2024 Premier Plus for 4 user = $1,875
You should stay with QB Desktop 2021 (+ a 3rd party importer tool) as I suggested earlier if you don't run any add-ons.
The price is not that bad but yeah, looks like the stakeholders would like to keep the version for now. I am just getting all the infos/pricing until they want to move forward. Thank you!
I have 2 companies that need to upgrade from 2021. They are separate ownership. Can I have 2 payroll subscription in enterprise when I get a gold 2 user license? Thank you for the advice
You can use a QB Desktop Enterprise Gold license to manage 2 company files with payroll. You should also consider to purchase the license via a partner to get a perpetual discount on renewals.
Let me share some information about your payroll subscription concern in your QuickBooks Enterprise Gold edition, JTMTNLIFE.
With QuickBooks Enterprise Gold, you can use a single payroll subscription to process payroll for multiple companies with different EINs. Also, each QuickBooks Desktop Payroll service can have up to three EINs. With Enhanced Payroll, there are no additional monthly fees for employees; additional fees for contractors will apply.
If you're subscribed with Enhanced for Accountant Payroll, you can add up to 50 EINs and each EIN can only have one company file. Once you attempt to create multiple company files under the same EIN it may cause errors. With Enhanced Payroll, there are no additional monthly fees for employees; additional fees for contractors will apply. To add a company to your existing payroll subscription on your QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Gold edition, just follow these steps if the company file you're adding to your payroll subscription hasn't previously used QuickBooks Desktop Payroll:
If it has, please reach out to our Payroll Support Team to get a service key. You can check out this article to learn more on what to do in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll when you have a new company file: Add a new company to your payroll subscription.
I'm also adding these articles that'll help you pay the employees on time:
Keep me posted if you have other questions about managing your company file and payroll subscription in QuickBooks Enterprise. I'll be happy to lend a helping hand. You have a good one.
This seems to be completely wrong information. I have been using the Qbooks Pro Desktop 2021. It start giving message that the license will expire by the end of July. After seeing posts like this, I trusted and assume that the software will continue to work without any support or update from Intuit. Now today is August 1, and my quickbooks desktop pro 2021 stopped working at all. It does not open the company file and keep giving the same error about license expired.
Hi -
I just opened mine and it still pulling up QB Desktop Accountant and our company file. We don't have any add-ons or payroll and QB is on-prem.
I just opened our QB Desktop Accountant and it is still pulling our company file. We don't have any add-ons and our QB is on-prem.
Thanks for joining the Community and getting involved with this thread, nazim_m.
As of May 31, 2024, QuickBooks 2021 was discontinued. If you didn't upgrade your product yet, you won't have access to live technical support or other Intuit services that can be integrated with the product.
You should still be able to use your product offline without any add-on services if you're not on a subscription version. Since you're receiving a message saying the license has expired, and are unable to open a company file, I'd initially recommend trying a clean install.
Here's how:
In the event you're still unable to open company files, you can continue troubleshooting with your QuickBooks Tool Hub. If it continues after trying each recommended troubleshooting process, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
I've also included a couple detailed resources about working with QuickBooks which may come in handy moving forward:
I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a great Thursday!
Login to CAMPS and check your license status. Maybe you were using QB Desktop 2021 with a subscription license.
I have QuickBooks Accountant 2022 and I am afraid that next year (2025) it will be discontinued and will not be supported. I DO NOT want to move to QuickBooks on-line. I don't like anything about this version. I have called Intuit Sales several times not to ask about purchasing a license for QBDT Accountant 2024. I have been on hold FOR OVER THREE HOURS. Intuit has not call back feature, where they will call me and I can keep my place in line.
How can I talk to a REAL LIVE PERSON in Sales to purchase the latest version of QB Desktop Accountant? Seems like Intuit REALLY doesn't want customers to purchase desktop versions of their software. HELP!
